URGENT ALERT! POTENTIAL CHOKING HAZARD!
PLEASE BE AWARE (And BEWARE): The carrots are cut into "squares", and just about every edge is Razor sharp! After feeding the first meal of this to my dogs, my Yorkie boy hacked, coughed and literally had gagging episodes for almost an hour and a half. It was a Sun eve, and we became so concerned, we almost rushed him to the emergency vet, as this seemed to spring up from nowhere - until we checked the "new" food he had just consumed.Upon closer examination, I was literally Horrified. As most dog owners are aware, when dogs eat, they do not pulverize their food down to the size of a grain of salt before they swallow it. They simply chew a little - and swallow. (In fact, I know of plenty of dogs who even swallow much of their food whole - absolutely worth noting here.) Herein lies the Exact problem with this particular food - Especially if you have a small dog!The problem is with all "dehydrated" contents in the bag - the carrots in particular - which are about the size of the dry kibble itself. (The bananas are even larger.) This to say, they are of significant size. Due to the dehydration process, these "fruits and veggies" are hard as a rock, and the pieces of carrots are so sharp, that in holding a piece in between my own fingers, the points on the edges could have very well punctured my own skin, had I applied even a little pressure. These are not "bits", rather about the size of a fingernail, and equivalent to the size of the kibble. If a dog were to swallow this whole - OR even partially chewed - there is a significant chance that any 4 of the sharp points on each piece of the "square" cut carrots could lodge in the throat, or scrape the esophagus, trachea, or even intestinal lining during the digestion process. I believe this is exactly what happened to one of my dogs.Once we realized the cause, I remedied by immediately giving him soft, mushy food, in order to "push down" anything that could have been "stuck" in his throat. Please be aware of this - especially if you have a small dog (small esophagus/trachea). I will post pictures to this review.BUYER BEWARE of this particular formulation of Ultramix. If this happened to us, it can potentially happen to anyone. Also of note, most dehydrated foods for dogs (think Honest Kitchen, Sojos) is Meant to be RE-hydrated to moisten, soften, and bulk the food up to it's original size prior to feeding - not meant to "supplement" a dry kibble in dehydrated form such as this.I hope that Merrick re-visits this potentially dangerous formula and the hazards it can subject pets and their unknowing owners to - who are only meaning well and wanting the best for their pets. Please be your own judge & consider the safety of this food before feeding. Sharply cut pieces for a little dog to swallow and potentially choke on as well as subject pet to other internal injury. Thanks for reading... just hoping to make pet owners aware who love their dogs as much as I do.

Pups Love It~
I don't love it (just to clarify) but the pups do and that's what counts... We continue to have this delivered every few months along with the other flavours of C/P as well just to give them a variety... Have used it the past couple of years now. No recalls either that I'm aware of. Good product. Smells fresh every bag we open as well.

My dogs are very spoiled when it comes to their food. They expect the best because I home cook their dinner every night using the best - chicken breast, ground turkey, fresh fish, kale, spinach and other yummy ingredients. So, when it comes to feeding them dry dogfood for breakfast, it was seemingly impossible to find a food they would eat. But they absolutely love Natural Ultramix, both the grain free and the regular kind. I've never had a dry dog food they eat with gusto before. I've been feeding it to them for about a year now, and they still love it!

You owe this to your family member - your dog...
My dog literally almost knocks me over coming in the door in the mornings after his potty break because he knows this will be waiting in his bowl... have used for a couple of months now and he has more energy, he LOVES it, I know it's healthier, and buying in larger bags via Amazon makes it affordable. It also lasts longer; you feed less of this because it's real food - not filler. Goodbye, junk dog food!

Tail wagging approval
My beagle-mix baby likes this stuff so I'm happy with it and have bought it a couple times. I top it off at meal time with a canned (wet) meat product and she just loves it combined this way (for now! HA).

Keeps our dog happy and healthy!
My dog (lab/schnauzer mix, 55 lbs.) loves this brand. She is a picky eater and has had digestive issues in the past from constantly changing foods while she was in foster care. She does really well with this grain free chicken blend. She was on Castor and Pollux grain free before (3 yrs) and switched to the chicken ultramix roughly 6 months ago.
