Great new age receiver......
Update. I noticed when I switched from listening to Pandora on the Net to playing vinyl on the turntable that there was a big difference in the volume coming out of the receiver. I even sold a very nice Denon cartridge thinking that it was the problem. I assumed it was the built in preamp contacted another dealer looking for a separate preamp to boost the sound up. The Crutchfield customer service agent informed me that you can adjust the volume of each component on this receiver. Something that I didn't notice in the manual. Now the volume from the turntable, Pandora and CD player are the same.I will always love my vintage receiver, but it was missing some modern options. After reading many reviews I decided on the Onkyo TX-8270. It is a bit smaller and lighter then I imagined it would be. However, it was a breeze to set up, the multi channel WiFi works great. The receiver fills a large great room with beautiful music. I paired it with Klipsch RB-61 II bookshelf speakers and a Klipsch R-10SWI wireless subwoofer. What I love about this receiver, it has HDMI options so you can use it as a home theatre system (no center channel), it has a full size remote(so when the girlfriend enters the room I can easily lower the volume), it has a preamp for a turntable, and ports for my CD player and IPOD cradle. One of the best features is that you can stream music services with it after downloading the Onkyo Controller app. So I can use my tablet and turn on the receiver (through wood cabinet doors), choose a Pandora station, and adjust the volume, treble, base, subwoofer volume, etc. This receiver is a beautiful high tech piece of electronics, it has lots of power, the sound is great and it is very cool to play around with.

TX-8270 Amazing Wonderful Sounding & Powerful Amp
5 ++Stars This Is An Excellent Unit, I love this amp! Has plenty of power for my 2- 6 speaker each Tower Speakers sound is crystal clear and does not distort at hi volume, I also added a 300 watt sub onto it makes a big difference in bass. The other major plus is all the digital hook ups and internet features that are built into it. On Screen settings is a wonderful feature and makes set up incredibly simple and the amount of individualized adjustments to settings almost seems unending. I run my Roku via the HDMI pass through so all my internet tv, YouTube etc.. sound comes through the amp. Plus unit still has analog inputs for turntable and other analog units. My Rotel analog amp blew and I replaced it with this one (TX-8270 Why Amazon lumps all the reviews into one I don't know) I strongly recommend this amp for the money it is an excellent buy especially if you are not looking for a fancy home theater surround sound system, bu t a great regular stereo system that adapts well to anything out there right now.

Great sound without spending a fortune...but no proper line out
UPDATE: 1/10/19 No problem with eating batteries after all. I feel pretty stupid about it since i never thought to come back and fix the review once i figured it out. there's a button on the remote right next to power (main or zone 2 not sure) that's really easy to push accidentally. i assume if i had it hooked up to my tv there's probably a menu that opens up that prevents any of the other buttons from doing anything until you close it. i only use the receiver for audio and can't see what's happening so all i know is my remote suddenly stops working. i think having batteries out for awhile resets it which led me to believe that they were dying quickly. I think it's a dumb design since it assumes people will know what's happening with no visual indication but now that i know what's happening it's easy to work around. sorry for causing any confusion. the unit is still working fine.***************************************************************************************************************************************UPDATE: 7/23/2017 I've been through 4 sets of batteries in a couple months. the firmware update didn't help.**************************************************************************************************************************************************************UPDATE: 6/24/2017 REMOTE CONTROL RAPID BATTERY DRAINI feel like I should mention that this unit seems to have an issue with the remote control eating batteries. Every other remote I've ever owned for any other type of device seems to go a couple years or so without needing batteries. I've had to change the batteries twice now in about a month or so. Hopefully there's some way to fix this. At first I thought the unit was defective when it would only respond to certain buttons all of the sudden. After a couple weeks or so the only button that will do anything is the a/b speaker switch. I messed around with it for awhile thinking this doesn't make sense because why would some buttons cause a response and not others if the batteries are actually dead, but putting in a new set of AAA batteries fixed it immediately. Something isn't right. Still enjoying the unit but this will get expensive.**************************************************************************************************************************************************************My hk990 failed to power up one morning and I started shaking and sweating immediately from withdrawal symptoms caused by lack of music. I had to get something fast and this just happened to come out at the perfect time. My HK unit had more power (150w vs 100w for the onkyo) but it still seems to drive my towers just fine. The sound quality is also fantastic. I was worried about downgrading from an "audiophile" grade unit but I guess things have progressed in the last 5 years and I don't feel like I'm missing out at all. The tone is warm but detailed and does all genres well so far and the fact that it doesn't heat up my room with big burning hot heatsinks all the time and make fan noise is a nice bonus. The headphone out turned out to be pretty good too. My headphones were pretty expensive and I bought a separate amp for them but it ended up sounded close enough that I don't REALLY need it though it is a bit better than the headphone out on the onkyo. This is why I'm not completely pissed about the fact that the onkyo doesn't have a proper line out for me to use with the headphone amp. The "zone 2" line out on the tx-8270 only outputs sound from the analog inputs or am/fm radio. I thought it was defective when I couldn't get any sound from my phones but when I called onkyo they verified that the DAC isn't connected to the only line out on the unit and that my new headphone amp is useless and has to be returned unless I return the onkyo for something "normal". However, since the supplied headphone out on the tx-8270 seems to have plenty of power and is pretty clear I can't be too upset. It's just weird they they would leave out such a basic feature that even my old $100 panasonic bluray player has. DEAR ONKYO PLEASE INCLUDE A PROPERLY FUNCTIONING LINE OUT ON THE NEXT MODEL. THANK YOU!PS: This unit has bass management like an avr that can be adjusted in 10hz increments. Awesome! If you aren't using a sub please remember to disable it in setup since it comes with sub out enabled by default with a 100hz low pass. Your music will sound thin unless you disable the sub in settings!
