Carpet Chair Mats for Low Pile, 45-Inch by 53-Inch with Lip, Clear Vinyl

I like this mat in that the "studs" on the underside of the mat are not so long and sharp, rather more smooth and rectangular-shaped - I feel this will be better for my carpet in the long run. I also like that it is very clear so the look of the carpet continues to flow for the most part as you can still easily see the colors of the carpet underneath the mat. After I received it, I did have to un-fold it and set it up with some books on the corners for about a day until it was flat, but has been fine since doing that. Chair runs smoothly over the mat. So far I am very pleased.

I made the mistake of ordering a "bamboo" mat for a carpeted floor (what an idiot) because I thought it looked nice. A few weeks later and multiple splinters, I tossed the other and got this. Couldn't be happier! Has "carpet spikes" so it doesn't move and handles the movement and weight of me and chair without any bending or cracking worries at all. Wish I purchased this FIRST to begin with!!

I'm surprised at how badly bent this was when it arrived. It was sent in an enormous box, and was folded up awkwardly. I had to use heavy boxes of unbuilt Ikea furniture to flatten it out for 2 days before using it. Once used for a day, the wheels on my chair badly dent this plastic. It's not as thick and sturdy as I had hoped, but it's better than nothing.

Got this mat today. First I was happy that it shipped folded like a taco and not rolled up. It flattened out well and hasn't been a problem. It is very clear and not frosted like most mats I've had were, but that doesn't matter to me. I'm in a home office on regular carpet about 1/2" thick and it holds fine, no shifting or anything. It's not super thick and does seem to easily leave indentations if you stay in one place. I don't like that because if you just want to move a little your chair wants to roll back in the divots. It's supposedly has a 'no crack' guarantee. I work at my computer all day, so I'll definitely put it through it's paces, if anything changes I'll update this review.

Another company that doesn't stand behind their product. I purchased this mat approximately 4 years ago. With the product came a lifetime warranty against cracking. My vinyl mat has a number of small cracks in about 10 locations. I filled out all the warranty claim form, took pictures as instructed and included the original UPC label in my warranty claim. ES Robbins denied the warranty claim because of a carpet + pad thickness loophole. This "medium duty" mat rests on an office grade carpet with low pile on a high quality pad. At least the product description now includes the appropriate carpet plus pad thickness that the mat is meant for use with. They should further clarify that the warranty is only valid up to the advertised thickness of the mat and pad. This information was not covered in the product description when I bought the product. I recently upped my rating from 1 star to 3 stars as after some e-mail exchanges with ES Robbins customer service and a couple of phone calls, they did offer an upgrade to the premium mat for a nominal fee ($20). Responses to my e-mails were slow, but ultimately, they did stand behind their product. A word of caution: Read the small print about the warranties on these products.
