Japanese Bonito Flakes 2.82 Ounces Pack Of 2

This is a good quality bonito that I use to make Japanese stock. The stock powders that everyone uses has way too much MSG so I prefer to make my own stock from scratch.I wouldn't use it as a finishing bonito because it has a more meaty texture and it's not as naturally sweet as the more expensive brands. For two big bags at $10, you can't beat the price.

This brand was a first time purchase to try instead of the usual brand. The majority of flakes are in one piece not just crumbs and dust which is great, but our cats didn't like them. The odor is definitely a strong smokey smell vs. the other brand we usually buy which is why I assume they don't like it.Back to the other bonito flakes.

Anyone who purchases these bonita flakes knows that at the end when there are no flakes and it's mostly powder, the cat won't eat it. These are the best, biggest, most flakes of the various options.

My 5 stars for the details are based on my very fussy cat's enthusiastic response. He is 18yo, has always been skinny, and I swear this stuff has kept him alive. When he doesn't feel like eating these seem to stimulate him. While these smaller bags are more expensive they absolutely keep it fresher. Can't speak of product for humans, but my cat certainly loves!
