Incredibly potent stuff. Handle with care (...and if you are consuming this, good luck!)
To shoo the elephant out of the room up front: No, I do NOT put cayenne on everything I eat. I am not a spice-crazed psycho. I bought this to scare away the wildlife (bears, coyotes, bobcats, deer) from our yard, due to them either being a threat to my dogs, or to my ornamental plants. Originally, I tried a 5 lb bottle of hot pepper flakes and while that was fine for a while, they didn't go as far (literally) as I wanted. I tried this, and wow. It absolutely worked. Word of caution if you are using it as a topical spread to discourage animals: It will absolutely work on you as well. I effectively pepper 'sprayed' my eyes and face while spreading this and it wasn't even that windy at the time. WEAR Gloves and protective goggles (then wash whatever you were wearing and don't use shoes you can't leave outside for a while). Because of this, I can tell you this is as potent as you can get despite it's relatively 'generic' name and gargantuan size. I can only imagine that the people who buy this for human consumption either have no real digestive track or are the type to be into self-flagellation. It will turn whatever you spread it onto a reddish brown hue, so be careful around flowers. I accidentally got some on my white tulips while I was flailing and screaming about goggles and life choices and when I was able to see again, my tulips looked like someone bled all over them. Did this keep critters out? Absolutely. They made a 50 ft berth around our yard after one application. You will have to reapply after a rain or if they start to creep back, but I used this from Spring to July and I have more than half left. For perspective, I also spread this around our back yard property line (~200 ft or so) and the previously mentioned hot pepper flakes just made this journey before running out (and their effectiveness lasted 1 month). You also only need to put dabs of this down about 5 ft apart to be effective (if you want to create a large barrier) and so I didn't need as much as with the flakes, and the property line area deterrent lasted a lot longer than before (I didn't reapply this to the border though only the areas around our flower beds and across the popular coyote/bobcat trail in our yard). I have not seen a SINGLE coyote or bobcat since April and we were getting them 2 x a day on that trail for a few weeks prior. We have also had no bears (would usually have 3-5 sightings in our yard over the summer). The deer have completely stopped bothering with our flower beds, but they do come lay in our backyard now (past month or so - it is the end of October now). I suspect that the backyard treatment washed away completely after the hard rains we had last month.

Cyenne pepper bought in bulk
We use it to keep the squirrels from eating the bird seed. The pepper doesn't hurt the birds but the squirrels don't like it.

Odd usage
Sprinkle on my garden keeps deer and other mammals from munching.
