This 54-piece puzzle is great for toddlers who are ready to learn the alphabet and letter sounds! The design includes bright colors and easily recognizable graphics to help your child associate letters with commonly seen animals and food items. I designed it at a time when my toddler was really loving puzzles. He had learned to recognize the uppercase alphabet by playing a puzzle that my mother-in-law bought. Each letter was broken into an upper and lower half, and I realized that this design allowed him to learn the distinct form of the letter. However, I could not find any similar puzzles to teach the lowercase alphabet. At the same time, I realized how important it was to learn the lowercase alphabet as a foundation before teaching phonics, because so much text is written in lowercase and not uppercase. By incorporating the most common phonic sounds into this puzzle (such as the "ck" sound the letter "c", like in "cake", rather than the "s" sound like in "circle"), I made it easier for him to associate the letters with things that he already knew about. My toddler loved to finish this puzzle, say "Mommy good job!", and sing the ABC song while pointing out each letter.
