Fun challenging projects
All the Wooden city puzzle boxes are a fun challenge to assemble. Great design and engineering.

VERY well made, not very well explained
Overall it's pretty decent. The instructions are the biggest shortcoming, some of the locking pegs need to go in sideways, even though they show it on the picture they should make a point of calling out the ones that are different than the standard orientation. Since everything needs to be figured out from the pictures, some things are pretty small in the pictures and difficult to see. they have a variety of key notes on certain sub-assemblies, but there is no master key telling you what the little symbols mean. Tolerances are very tight, but are also spot on, which actually caused me a problem. The 8 pull up buttons on the lid need to hold themselves up, I thought these were just cut slightly off so I sanded them to move freely, now they don't stay up on their own. I think I can do some homebrew repair but this is the kind of thing that should be called out in the instructions, I've built Revell models that had better explanations. The little introductory story is pretty vague and I don't see how it ties into some of the later clues. I enjoyed assembling it for the most part. It's nice that they offer replacement parts for free, but the least expensive shipping option is nearly as much as the puzzle itself, how about just sticking the parts in a padded envelope and sending the USPS for $5.

No storyline to walk you through the puzzle, difficult to latch everything properly. Not worth it.
I enjoy building things, and cute riddles/escape room/puzzle boxes have always been a passion of mine. The pieces are well cut. It’s a solid 4-6 hour build for an adult. Children below 12-14 would not be able to assemble. My biggest complaint however is the story. I bought this for my 8 year old thinking it looked cute. The story has nothing to do with the box, does not give you clues, and half of the time things don’t line up properly nor latch properly due to wood on wood. And a lot of mechanical failures. If you’re making it as a gift, one gift card fits, barely and you have to mess with it. Also write your own story because the one it gives is worthless. There’s a seperate “cheat” page that does tell you what to do how to open and close, but the explanations don’t make sense.

Do it!!
Epic! It was a lil hard to figure out but my genius arse hubby figured it right out. I love that it has multiple things you have to do to open it! And my husband LOVED building it! Super cool! Highly recommend

Cute, but probably not worth it
I thought this was a really cool idea for my wife who loves escape rooms and puzzles. While it is nice looking in finished product, the actual puzzles only work somewhat. Also a very lackluster story with little to no connection to the puzzles other than it being pirates, and this a chest. The assembly took 4 hours, with a lot of tiny pieces. It was actually fun to put together, but definitely do it in a quiet environment because the pieces are small and there are very few replacement parts if something breaks or is lost. When it came time to give it to my wife, I read the story (took 30 seconds) and my started messing with it. Even in the instructions it's not clear on the order the puzzles are supposed to be solved, so she went for it. Due to some of the locking mechanisms not working properly, she was able to pull the sword free without actually doing the puzzle. We both looked at it afterword and aren't sure if ours was defective or what but the sliding mechanism just wouldn't function. She only had to figure out 2 more littlenpuzzles messing around with it for a second and she was done... 4 hours of assembly, for about 3 minutes of puzzle solving. She said she loved it and it was fun, but both of us definitely felt a bit let down.Summary - cute and fun idea that takes a very long time to assemble and is not an easy assembly, for a very minimal return on the fun at the end. Don't know if I can recommend this.

Loved this gift for my husband!
10/10 would recommend for the puzzle lover. This took some time to put together (2+ hours), but the joy I got as I fitted each piece together, getting closer and closer to the completed piece, was fun in and of itself. He LOVED it and so did I.

Bought as a gift for my husband. He loves it! He likes tinkering and really enjoyed putting this together. Then following the story to open it.

Fun project for a cold winters day.
Box arrived in a timely manner. Once I opened it I did find some of the pieces had separated from the stencil grids they come in so I had to be extremely careful during assembly to ensure the proper pieces went into their proper spots, It was fun to assemble and the concept is pretty cool. As for solving the escape room part it is not so difficult as I know all the tricks after assembling. 3 hours to assemble is fair. Think I am going to gift this with a surprise inside.
