Said to be the world's longest poem, Mahabharata was originally composed in 100,000 Sanskrit verses by the ancient Indian sage Vyasa. Revered as a sacred text within Hinduism, it contains the great spiritual teaching Bhagavad-gita. Krishna Dharma has condensed the epic into a fast paced novel that fully retains the majestic mood of the original. A powerful and moving tale, it recounts the history of the five heroic Pandava brothers, sons of the Emperor Pandu. Cheated of their kingdom and sent into exile by their envious cousins, they set off on a fascinating journey during which we meet gods, sages, mystics and mighty warrior kings. Profound spiritual themes underlie the thrilling narrative, making it one of the world's most revered texts. Culminating in an apocalyptic war, Mahabharata is a masterpiece of suspense, intrigue, and illuminating wisdom. Review: A fantastic epic! - If I had to pick one book to recommend to anyone to read... This would be the one. Review: Simplistic narrative but engaging and enthralling - Riveting and engaging despite simplistic narrative. I grew up with these stories so I'm aware of any holes in this book but I think it does the right thing in terms of relaying a story of good and evil, and how the latter thrives in the absence of spirituality and self-awareness. I dare you not to cry at some of these chapters but the book succeeds in conveying the love between, family, friends and, of course, the Supreme being! This book is over 900 pages long, however, to read the entire Mahabharata would take volumes of books. This book of the Hindu epic is accessible and obviously written with a pure heart. That's good enough for non-academics and academics alike.

I does justice to an epic poem.
The book is beautifully done. Very artistic illustrations and the fun for there text is also high class. I bought it for my sister, but will read it before I send it top her for Christmas. I have seen the 3 part film of this a few times and am looking forward to reading the whole story. I can recommend buying this edition of the Mahabharata without any hesitations. Even if you don't ever read it.

Mahabharata as retold by Krishna Dhama
Captivating story lines, easyflow story development and rich in moral issues. Knowledge and wisdom are contrasted with immorality and greed. The story unfolds easily and the event - chains link into one another effortlessly. The English medium, however, lacks in naturalness and robustness. Otherwise, the story of MBA comes to life in Dharma's retelling of the story which contrasts Knowledge and Wisdom with Cruelty and Possessiveness Many thanks to Krishna Dhama.

Beautiful story, very well written and easy to understand
I an already half way through the book, the story is amazing, and it is well written and an epic tale. I have read other reviews that said it was hard to follow because of the names, I made a family tree as I went along and by 100 pages I knew who everyone was without having to refer to the family tree. Loving it so far and don't want the story to end.

Absolute BEST Version on the Market!
I have read many versions of the Mahabharata in my time, however this is undoubtedly THE most accurate, gripping and entertaining version I have ever read. I have actually read this version 5 times! No lie! The extended version, not the condensed one, although I am sure thats great too! If you are currently trying to decide which copy of this great epic to go for, without a doubt, this is the one to read! You will not regret it.

Good for beginners
Shanti Parvam is missing and also Bhagvadgeeta could have been elaborated (it was not written on purpose by author) , however I gifted this book to my Catalan husband and its really good to get the picture of the great Mahabaratha war and basic understanding.
