Do these have a guarantee I bought 2 in Sept 2015 no longer working?

I have not seen any doc' regarding guarantee, but I would have thought there would be a years guarantee: however, you have your normal statuary rights by law, the item in question would be expected to give a reasonable service. I would personally contact the supplier via Amazon, if no joy: contact the citizen advice in your area.

Please can anyone advise me if I set the frequency and the sensor markings both to the same number?

You can if you want to but you don't have to. The frequency setting is the loudness and the sensor setting is the distance you need to detect. We have ours set the same, both at the highest number for maximum effect.

Is it better to set these to the highest number as in cats 3-5 therefore set it to 5 ?

I use them set at 4. I have noticed that as the batteries get low cats do return with less frequency than before I installed the devices. I would recommend frequent checking the devices for output. I am also going to buy rechargeable batteries and may buy additional devices tp cover potential blind spots

Does it need a water hose

No problem t not a water feature and it’s a high-pitched sound which cats don’t like
