Emotional Incest Syndrome: What to Do When a Parent's Love Rules Your Life

A very important book
This book was, for me, a revelation. The authors give a very enlightening view of the real dynamics within a family's nest, even when all appearances seem to point to something entirely different.Understanding the complexity of a parent child relationship, particularly when trying to see that within our own lives is, by no means, an easy task, and I think that the authors did a brilliant job in untangling something that has so, so many layers to it.This book has certainly been an eye opener, not only in helping me navigate through past trauma and making sense of it, but also in coming to an understanding of how we so often tend to normalize behaviors that simply aren't normal. Seeing behaviors and the true nature of relationships for what they are rather then through highly skewed childhood lenses, is absolutely fundamental in understanding and processing difficult situations which, if not addressed, can simply perpetuate our frustration with our own inability to change.I truly think that this book should be a must read to anyone trying to better understand his own past history and the way it may have affected (often profoundly) his life. Most importantly, I think that this book should be read by any parent out there.
