The Mothers of Lovely Lane: 3

I had not realised Nadine Dorries was an author as well as an Mp till I read the first book in the Lovely Lane series and was hooked. This is the 3rd book out of 5 and just as good as the first two. Amazing storyteller, books 4 and 5 already on order!

The Mothers of Lovely Lane was another fabulous read by Nadine Dorries and once again she did not disappoint, with this book it was based on the lives of the nurses we first met in book one namely The Angels of Lovely Lane (The Lovely Lane Series Book 1) and once again we are shown how lives have changed for the nurses through the years of not only the early 1950's but also the beginning stages of the NHS. Though this book we seen the personal lives of the nurses and with each nurse once again we are not disappointed as we are immediately brought back to the tragedy which took place in the last book which was the second book in the series The Children Of Lovely Lane (The Lovely Lane Series Book 2) Though for me what made this book special we are introduced more to the mothers who cleaned the corridors of this hospital, but also we are shown the personal lives and the many trials they faced plus the happy moments which kept them going. The mothers of the surrounding streets fought for what they believed in and even when those who went against the law and tried to rule the streets, thankfully there were men who loved their families with a passion, but would also lend a helping hand when needed. If you wanted a book which showed the life of a hospital, yes you will get this but this book has so much more within as with each turn of the page you were introduced to characters who lay down their lives while caring for those in need. This book does tell the story of St Angela's hospital but also the surrounding streets who helped run the hospital. I have loved this series from the first book, and with each new book, I was never disappointed. The Mother's of Lovely Lane written by Nadine Dorries is a wonderful book and one I am happy to recommend.

Great book

An absolutely brilliant read. One if the best fictional books I have read in a long time. I was lucky that I read the books one after another, indeed I read all three while on holiday in September (2017).This is the third book in the Lovely Lane Series, the others being The Nurses of Lovely Lane and The Children of Lovely Lane. All three are such wonderful reads and will bring a tear to the eyes if anyone who reads them. Each book tells the story of several people and their stories continue thoughout the books. Things don't always have a happy ever after end and indeed the storys are open to continue. How Nadine Dorries manages to write such brilliant books and also do her duty as an MP I wil never know, but long may she continue to write such great books.

Delivered on 1st June as promised - I pre-ordered this third book in the Lovely Lane series so that I received it as soon as it was available. I was travelling on 1st of June so this was my read on the journey as I knew I'd be hooked so it would pass the time and I wasn't disappointed! This book took on the quick changes that were happening in the NHS in the mid-50's as well as the changes in lifestyle for the population of that part of Liverpool. I can understand how the Irish weren't accepted as I was born in that era and though I was born & brought up in a small Scottish community my parents didn't 'belong' so neither did I. While reading this series I have become so absorbed that I almost feel that I am part of the St Angelus 'family' and extended community. Roll on the end of November when the next book - Christmas Angels will become available. I note the next book is almost £2 more expensive than this one!

A great book.However, I did find the beginning rather slow and disconnected. Once, we got going on the characters and situations, the book was full of ideas, events and lovely people. The idea of a local hospital among the poorer residents of Liverpool and the devastation during the war, was very well scripted. The camaraderie among the nurses themselves which also spread out to the local community, was heartwarming, as was the kindness among the residents to the less fortunate among them. I loved the back plot of thieving and violence, which added unexpected spice. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book and admire the author who kept the authenticity of the people of Liverpool during that era. Well done.

I did enjoy reading this book BUT there are far too many characters. It is like trying to remember the names of people without a face in a small village. However, I am looking forward to reading the next book to see what happens

I adore Nadine Dorries books. The lovely lane trilogy (this one being the 3rd) is a fabulous read. Not quite as good as the Four streets trilogy as that takes some serious beating but still a great read. This book in particular it can be read as a stand alone book but I would imagine the sheer volume of characters would take some getting used to. Much better to read it as it should be read as the 3rd book in the series. This one is another great read like the 1st two. Not quite as gripping but still one I couldn't put down. Well done Nadine. Keep them books coming you have a real talent. I'd like to see an Irish Liverpool one based in the war time instead of post war. Maybe even a new trilogy as you seem able to keep the characters fresh enough to be able to make the stories last over several long books. You are an amazing author.

Really enjoyed the Lovely Lane Series, couldn’t put any of them down. Can’t wait for book#4.

Again your storytelling is exceptionally intriguing and compelling with you characters that warm and break your heart. How you weave together the characters and circumstances to such intricate moments, amaze me. I have laughter; sighed and cried buckets throughout and can't wait for the next book, hurry!!!!!!

Not as good as the last 2 in the series , but still a good read. Will definitely be buying the next one.
