Communication is just another way to manage business
This book emphasizes the idea of Communication as a mean to achieve a goal. People sometimes speak to audiences, forgetting to do their homework of defining how to obtain the desired reaction. Communication is a powerful weapon if it is managed in a good way, if not, a minimal mistake or detail can derail your way to success. I think the major contribution of the book is the management of this skill from an strategical view. When you start reading you can find a lot of examples of how some people had problems because the way they communicated was not the desired one. On the other hand, you can check how a well managed communication, depending on the circumstances, can help you to solve problems. The book includes principles and skills to be developed in order to enhance the way you communicate. These principles, derived from the way the marines manage their warfighting conduct, helps you, not only in communications but in other administrative areas. Very good book.

Great Book
I have heard Fred Garcia present a workshop on communicating with the media and he was fantastic. That presentation drew from the broader principles that are discussed in this book. Garcia takes much from the US Marines "manual" "Warfighting" and applies it to communication in the public realm. The book is well-organized and punctuated with numerous examples of really GOOD (e.g., Steve Jobs) and really BAD (e.g., Netflix) examples of communication to the public. The book is a very easy read and after you read what Garcia says, it all seems so obvious. The book is somewhat repetitive at times, but that is forgivable. Garcia also neatly summarizes the key, take-home points at the end of each chapter. The book is also organized such that the last section could be read "stand alone" as sort of a "how to" guide for effective communication. Truly a must read for anyone in positions of authority.

The Power of Communication
An instant classic! Smart, user-friendly, and relevant. This book helps those of us in complex insitutions navigate both the strategy and the operations of communications for internal and external audiences. The secret to its power is simple: the combination of theoretical framing and practical advice. It is as close as one can get to a self-help coomunications guide. A must read for anyone leading an institution in transition or dealing with a crisis or managing a turnaround.
