Professional Grade Raw Coconut Sugar Made from the sweet sap of the coconut palm tree and also known as coconut palm sugar, coconut sugar is an excellent sweetener and can be used as a healthy alternative to standard white or brown sugar. Not to be confused with palm sugar, which comes from a different tree, coconut sugar is made by harvesting liquid sap from flower buds on coconut palm trees. The sap is then boiled and dehydrated to produce coconut sugar that has a similar taste to brown sugar. Both coconut sugar and normal granulated sugar contain 15 calories per teaspoon and some four grams of carbohydrate, but whereas regular sugar contains 50% fructose, coconut sugar has only 3% to 9%. Fructose prompts the liver to produce more triglycerides - the main constituents of body fat - so consuming less fructose is better for your overall wellbeing. As well as a healthier option, coconut sugar tastes great and is less refined than normal sugar.
