Very hot, even without the chillis!
At the current time of reviewing, this is £9.99 for a pack of three. In each pack there are two sachets and an ingredients card. That is all. So £3.33 for a sachet of onion powder and a sachet of spices. It’s easy enough to make, but if you use the full sachet of spices then expect your family to have a coughing fit while cooking and for the dog to start sneezing! At various points in the cooking, I had the feeling I was rehydrating a jar of sauce. The end result was tasty enough and very hot, but I’m not sure I would make this one again.

A hot but good quality mix of spices for a Jalfrezi flavour
East At Home Jalfrezi Spice Kit arrives in a non-recyclable plastic bag. Stickers on the bag provide the best-before date (30/12/2024) and a three chili logo = hot.Inside the bag are three kits each containing a recipe and two bags of spices. The recipe is identical for all three - which is a shame. Also printed on the recipe are the ingredients (s shown in the photo in the advert). The salt content is listed as the second ingredient - so don’t add any more. The spices only contain vegan ingredients. The recipe requires you to add 3x green chilies - it already has Kashmiri chili powder in the mix - so if you leave out the additional chillis or use mild ones perhaps it will not be as hot. The recipe also talks about sachet 1 & 2 - but they are not marked. Nor is it clear if you should discard or keep the water that you have soaked the onion mix in - so the recipe is OK but not that clear.I substituted the chicken for Crown Prince pumpkin which I roasted and I left out the additional green chilies. I then followed the recipe. The spice makes a good quality jalfrazi (a Bengali curry). The chillis in the spice pack are sufficient for a spicy hot curry. I am not sure why they used dried onions if you add additional onions. No need to add salt. The current price is £10.00 for a 3 pack and one pack will feed 4. - this is expensive only for the spices - but it is a very good blend of spices that captures the Jalfarzi well.

Super spicy jalfrezi
We had the chicken jalfrezi for tea this evening. The pack has everything you need except the oil, tomatoes and other fresh ingredients.I followed the steps on the pack and about 40 minutes later we had a delicious curry ready to eat! I really recommend that you cook it out for as long as possible, it really helps with the flavours. The spice mix and dried onions are a great idea. They do include salt in the mix, so you might not need to add extra, but check taste. This jalfezi was marked as 3 chillis hot and yes it's very spicy indeed! Probably too spicy for us on a regular basis, I used a full tin of chopped tomatoes and as with the other spicy curry from this brand I had to to temper the spice by adding some mango chutney and cream at the end. When I make this again I will use a second tin of tomatoes to stretch the spice and add extra veggies to make a far bigger curry, enough for 6 portions and I think that will bring the spice level down for my taste. However, if you love spice, definitely try this one! It's very nice and easy to make.

Easily makes a pretty authentic and tasty curry
Very simple to use and there are easy to follow instructions on the pack. All you need to supply are easy to source ingredients and this pack takes care of the more exotic stuff.Tastes and smells great, pretty authentic, or at least tastes like what I'm used to from takeaways, bursting with spice and flavour.First one we put in the full amount of chillies but cut the amount down on the second which brought the heat down to a level more my speed.Great for a very amateur cook such as myself

Lovely
Very authentic taste and easy to follow instructions. You get 3 packs so will do 3 meals which isn't too bad value wise.I actually cooked mine in an air fryer - yes you can do it in an airfryer. I made a vegetable one without meat but using potatoes, onions, carrots and peppers and a few lentils. I put all the ingredients into the airfryer liner and mixed in the oil water tin tomatoes and spices. I cooked it on 190° heat for 3o minutes. It was delicious. You can reduce the cooking time by using precooked potatoes as they take the longest to cook until soft. The finished taste is quite equal to traditional authentic cooking, full bodied with lots of taste and is very spicy so not advisable for people that don't like hot spicesThe aroma from the spices does permeate around the house so you may want to open a kithen window while cookingIt certainly deserves full stars as this is as good as that you get in a restaurant at a fraction of the price. Absolutely spot on
