Lupin the 3rd Sweet Lost Night [Blu-ray]
D**N
One of the Better Lupin Films
I was REALLY disappointed with the previous Lupin release from Discotek, Seven Days Rhapsody, so I’m really pleased to say that Sweet Lost Night is considerably better. Lupin is out to steal the actual Aladdin’s lamp in one of the most thrilling openings of any Lupin film. There is an awesome back and forth between Lupin and Zenegata that shows the inspector to be arguably as insanely crafty as Lupin himself. Once Lupin gets the lamp, he rubs it and out comes a genie who offers him a wish for half of the rest of his life. Before he can answer, Lupin finds himself in the middle of a busy street having had 12 hours erased from his mind. For much of the rest of the movie Lupin tries to fill in the time gap and figure out what the heck happened. There are several villains including the insane warhawk Colonel Garlic and the enigmatic Doctor Eichmann. The movie even makes it ambiguous as to whether Eichmann is even bad. There is a lot of humor, great animation and fantastic music. This is definitely one of the better Lupin films. It hits on all cylinders with a compelling plot and excellent usage of the characters. With the number of Lupin films out there they sometimes all start to blend together but this film manages to distinguish itself. I definitely recommend this film and would put it among the better in the series.
