Wonderful, detailed book for soapmakers!
This is a meticulously researched, well-written, and extremely informative book. I’m an experienced, professional soapmaker myself, and I can tell you that Simi is a wonderful teacher. I have both used her soap and tried her techniques myself, and the book is such a great resource for anyone who is seriously interested in natural, cold process soapmaking. I find a lot of her advice to be spot on and super helpful. The photos are stunning, and you can just tell that she’s done so much work to gather the correct information in order to help you make really good soap. The recipes are well-written, and easily adapted to your own personal preferences, and the science is explained extremely well. In this genre and field, it can be be challenging to find a truly technically-sound resource that doesn’t rely on hearsay and oft-repeated material lifted from bloggers — this book is a gem. Highly recommend for anyone who is serious about soapmaking but also wants a beautiful book to enjoy!

Best resource for natural, cold-process soap
I became interested in soapmaking after doing a ton of research on eczema. I decided to make natural soap to reduce the number of skin irritants for my family and me. Simi's book delivered exactly what I was looking for. This book is the best resource to cold-process soapmaking. It has instructions and information for beginners and more advanced techniques and recipes for folks with more experience under their belts. What I love: - Every recipe is natural, using all-natural ingredients like oils, butters, clays, and essential oils. There are no dyes, no fragrance oils, no lab-like ingredients. This is natural, cold-process soap with wholesome, natural ingredients. Other soapmaking books will use lots of dyes, colors and fragrance oils to make pretty-looking soaps. Soaps in this book are artistic and naturally beautiful. - These soap recipes have been tested and sold for years, so they're fine-tuned, perform well and have stood the test of time. - Simi offers free videos on YouTube that show how to make soaps, so they complement the recipes in the book. - Simi is responsive and attentive to the soapmaking community. She responded so graciously when I had a question about one of the recipes in her book. - She offers so many additional recipes you can buy on the Muddy Mint website, so your soap exploration can continue even after you master these recipes. I saw one negative review on here and don't feel like it's warranted. I'm deeply grateful to have this book & resource at home, and have already started making these recipes.

Best book out there for new soap makers!
This book is by far the best book out there for new soapers! It's laid out beautifully, with tons of useful information with directions that are easy to understand and follow. It's packed with useful information, including oils, colorants, essential oils, what you need to get started, where to purchase supplies, and most importantly - safety! I can't recommend this book enough, it was a game changer for me!

Great book ! Full of recipes, tips, resources and a heart for soaping!
I am so excited about this book!, I have been listening to “muddy minty” on line. The author has LOTS of beautiful pictures, a must for me! She has clear instructions, great and creative ideas and suggestions. She speaks from experience from her own soaping journey, which is so valuable to us all. This is a great resource for those of us who are teetering between soaping as a hobby and business. I also enjoy listening to her on line as Muddy Mint. Best of Luck as you continue your amazing soaping journey Simi!

Great handbook! As a complete novice to soapmaking I found this book very clearly organized and presented. The information is also very comprehensive, taking you from starting your first batch to experimentation. It's not only for newbies- I'm sure even experienced soapers would pick up valuable information and insights.

Amazing soapmaking book that's perfect for beginners, and ideal for vegans and those avoiding palm oil. I really wish this book had been around when I first started making soap; it has soooo much useful information about all of the basics, such as the equipment needed, info on the use of lye, natural colourants, essential oils and blending them, and how to start formulating your own soap recipes starting from a great base recipe. This book starts with some simple recipes using some of the most common (and affordable) oils and butters, and doesn't overuse expensive oils, which are often wasted in soap as it's a 'wash off' product so your skin doesn't really benefit from the use of expensive oils. There are NO animal fats or palm oil used in the recipes, and the author gives all the information you need to ensure that your soap is hard enough using plant oils and butters. The only animal products listed in recipes are milk (any milk can realistically be substituted for a different milk, and honey can be substituted with agave or maple syrup. The author has included a lot of photos, both of finished soaps so you can see what they could turn out like (don't expect yours to be perfect first time if you're a beginner though!) and also some of the processes, so you can see what she's talking about. There's a shopping list at the back of the book, so if you want to have a go at literally every recipe in the book, you could go out and buy all the ingredients in one go (which would give some bulk buy savings). All of the recipes are designed around imperial measurements (it's an American book), but the author has very helpfully converted everything into metric measurements and % so that the rest of the world can understand. The % information is particularly helpful if you want to scale up or down - scaling down for your first few batches of soap is a great idea to avoid too much wastage if it all goes wrong. If you're a beginner, still discovering soapmaking, I would highly recommend this as the best book to start with, and the only book you'll need for a while. The only drawback, for those of us in the UK and the EU, is that Americans don't have the same safety regulations, so be aware that there are recipes with up to 6% essential oils, whereas if you want to sell soap in the UK or EU the limit is 3%. And some ingredients mentioned in this book are banned for use in soap in the UK and the EU, such as indigo powder.
