🌧️ Catch the rain, keep the debris at bay!
The Rain Harvesting Leaf Eater is a compact and versatile downspout filter designed for easy DIY installations. Featuring advanced single screen technology for effective debris shedding, it requires minimal maintenance and can pivot to accommodate both vertical and horizontal downspouts, making it the perfect solution for 4-inch downspouts.

Works well thus far - several months of use
As you can see, I installed mine near the bottom of the downspout. I did this so that any debris which accumulates in the screen would be obvious, and easier to clean. So far, I have had very good results through many heavy downpours. I cut the bottom of the downspout at an approximate angle to match the screen surface. I only left a couple of inches of clearance between the downspout and Leaf eater screen to reduce splashing, but will increase that if leaf clogs become a problem. So far, leaf debris either falls away, or is easy to brush off the screen. This configuration worked so well, I bought and installed another on one of our other problem downspouts that drains into a storm run-off pipe. I will say that the second Leaf Eater price was a bit steep.

Expensive but works very well
The media could not be loaded. Works great for keeping debris out of my underground gutter drainage system. Very little splash-back during a torrential rainfall. I’m not sure of the self cleaning ability as I clean the screen on a regular basis and my gutters are clean at the moment. They are expensive but I feel they work as intended.

Leaves do not wash off
I installed this filter right below the gutter. Leaves fall onto the screen and just stay there. Water bounces off the screen and onto the ground. This puts allot of rain water in one spot next to the house. I cannot see what I could have done wrong. Pretty easy to install, it just does not work for me.

Works well with one caveat..
I decided to build a small scale rain harvesting system so I bought the rain harvesting 4" leaf eater and their first flush diverter. I installed my gutters routed to the discharge and built diverter pipe for the leaf eater and flush assembly. I started to use thin wall 4" Schedule 40 PVC pipe, but both the leaf eater and first flush diverter are made for thick wall pipe so the thin wall pipe won't work. Luckily I had a 10' section of thick wall pipe and everything went together smoothly. I was shocked when we tested it and everything worked. Now I just need it to rain in central Texas!

Install Info
Installed recently. Worked but leaves get caught in the filter. Need to clean after each rain. So the leaf eater should be bigger to account for blocked flow from leaves. Filter catches roof granules which is a good thing. Could be thicker, screw connection area is too small and I also needed a spacer on the back of it. for the money, they should give you some PVC shims. Only time will tell how they hold up. A little odd on the size. Does not fit a standard 4" drainage pipe. You need a coupling from the hardware store that fits over a standard 4" white/black drainage pipe. The leaf eater fits over the coupling, not inside as you might expect. You could also use a Y or tee fitting to join the 4" drain pipe to the leaf eater to elevate from the floor some for snow protection. The leaf eater fitting fits over the y fitting end in the same strange way. It was snug and seemed ok. I liked it enough to buy 3 more.
