Worth the money
UPDATE: The manufacturer has released a new PCB which is easily user-installed (the Tankstick is designed to be opened without violating the warranty). I bought one online from X-Arcade for about £35 (sent to the UK from the US) and this allows the stick to mimic two XBox controllers, so modern games on Steam can be played without any keyboard/joystick emulation software. I believe this is to be implemented in all new deliveries of the Tankstick, but it's worth checking out from the seller beforehand to see if it's the new model or the existing version.(Original review below)Make sure you've done your desk measurements before purchasing, because this thing is HUGE - but wonderful. If anything, it's even better than I had anticipated. Albeit I've only had the stick a few days, the build quality appears to be superb and I expect it will last as long as advertised. I use it with MAME mostly (for which it is ideally suited) but also with Pinball FX on the PC, as the flipper buttons on the side add a beautiful functionality for that genre of game. The only thing that could be improved (although it's not a criticism of this model) would be the addition of a 'spinner' for games that use them (Arkanoid/Pong etc), but the trackball can be locked into 1-axis mode which works almost as well. It's also worth pointing out that the support from the original manufacturer is excellent. At the time of purchasing, there is an offer for a free activation code for one of the most popular MAME frontends which, despite my having bought the stick from a third-party, X-Arcade have agreed to honour, responding almost immediately to my request.

Sturdy but needs better PCB and sticks.
Upgrade the PCB so you can actually play 2 player without conflicting button presses and the sticks to IL Euro sticks and you're golden. Solid housing and can take a thrashing as demonstrated while playing Golden Axe with my button mashing wife.

Like a true Arcade Machine
It's heavy, and it really feels like it's indestructible.More, it really feels like being playing a true arcade machine, the ones that remember me of my childhood. It seems to be expensive, but it's worth it.

Perfect!
Perfect for MAME! Perfect for Donkey Kong, Pac Man, Defender, Robotron, Missile Command. Easy to set up. Excellent build quality. Drivers included in Windows (the computer views it as a normal keyboard and mouse)

Awesome
I have owned my tankstick for over seven years now and it's as good today as the day I bought it.The build quality of this device is second to none. They are made in America and built from professional arcade components. So the joysticks and buttons are exactly as you would find on a traditional arcade machine. The joysticks (in my opinion) are the best shaped ones you can have. The other common shape being a basic 'ball' shape. But this shape is far more comfortable to hold and easier to manipulate. The buttons are also the best kind available. They are concave in shape and afford the greatest amount of control. In my opinion, convex buttons (which are often shiny, opaque plastic) are inferior and are more prone to finger slippage. The micro switches in both the joysticks and buttons are sublime. As fast as you can possibly move/hit them, you will deliver a separate, distinct input each and every time. Seven years and counting and I have not noticed a single sticking joystick or button. But there are other great things about this unit.Firstly, it's size and weight. This was the biggest and heaviest gaming joystick that 'X Gaming' make and I bought it because size and weight is important, especially when playing two player games where you have two adults going crazy at the same time. This beast weighs over 7kg and so stays well anchored to a surface. The most infuriating thing from a gamer's perspective, are cheap light joysticks that skate around as you move them. This behemoth does not.Secondly, when you plug this in (I use it on a PC) - you do so via USB and it's recognised as a standard KEYBOARD. This is great because it means that it will work on any game. (Certainly any game which allows the use of keys). Just go into the game's 'options', and map the keys to the tankstick. (Eg. Just go to the key for 'UP', and push 'UP' on the joystick when you assign that key). It's simple and works perfectly. If you are into playing games on MAME, then the tankstick is perfect for that too.I once tripped over the cables coming out of the tankstick and thought I had broken it....(the joystick stopped working) - but I was wrong! On the back are six screws (more on those in a moment) - so I undid them and you'll be pleased to know that inside, all the connections are on jumpers - they are not soldered or hard wired. Great design! So I just pushed it back onto the jumper and bingo, all was well again.Regarding those screws....This is my only real small gripe. Be careful if you put this on your favourite coffee table...For some reason, the screw heads are not recessed. They sit slightly proud of the surface and hence can badly scratch any wooden surface you place the unit on. It's an odd oversight on an otherwise brilliantly designed piece of kit. I just wanted to warn you before you ruin a table like I did! (I now have blobs of blue tack permanently over each screw head and it's fine; which also makes the unit even more rigid on a smooth surface). In summary, although this unit is expensive (I think I only paid around £120 for it 7 years ago!) - I don't believe you can buy a better game controller, especially if your focus is on shoot 'em ups and fighting games. (It's a dream to play any Street Fighter game on). The company that makes it (X Gaming) also sell Playstation and Xbox adapters as well, so you can use this to control any game that you play on those consoles. What more could you want?!
