Reviews citing high THD are incorrect.
The prominent 1% THD figures youโre seeing on amplifiers like the Technics SA-C100 (and many other recent models) are a direct result of the updated FTC Amplifier Rule that took effect in August 2024. This 1% THD rating does not mean the amplifier produces 1% distortion at all volume levels. It simply indicates that the amp can deliver its full rated power (e.g., 50W into 4ฮฉ for the SA-C100) without exceeding 1% THD + Noise across the full 20 Hzโ20 kHz audio band. Reviews that harshly criticize the SA-C100 (or similar amplifiers) for โhigh THDโ are often misleading. In most cases, the reviewer misunderstands how FTC-compliant power ratings are now measured and is incorrectly treating the maximum allowable distortion at full rated power as the amplifierโs typical performance.

Beautiful, beautifully made, excellent overall.
Technics CD Network Receiver arrived very nicely packaged and protected. The received is extremely well made from high quality materials and most of it is metal. It is sleek, modern, and short. The depth and width are sized similarly to most audio components, so it does not get lost in a set-up. I hooked the Technics up to a pair of PSB Alpha T20 Speakers. Sound quality is excellent. I use the Technics to listen to CDs and stream Spotify via AirPlay. The sound is crisp, clean, and has good power behind it, but isn't boomy, overwhelming, or processed sounding. I really appreciate the built-in CD player... as I have a large collection of discs I can listen to again. CDs are easily to load, spin quietly, and look great when spinning, and there is a built in LED light to illuminate the spinning CD. The remote is nicely sized and comprehensive. The companion app is functional and fairly easy to use, but I would not call it sleek or modern. You will need to use the app to connect the Technics to your Wi-Fi, and it worked well for me. There are also some touch controls buttons on the front and top of the receiver. The display on the front is simple, but sharp and contains a good amount of information. All in all.. lovely.

Impressive sound
For me,this receiver offers superb sound quality. The Technics SA C-100 receiver is simplicity itself to begin to use. One does need to have speakers to connect to to the receiver . The speakers need to be the type that use split speaker wire, not the type with audio plugs. I connected some old speakers I have and the sound is full and pure , but I think I might still get better sound with better speakers . I turned on the receiver , and connected the SA C-100 to Wifi . As soon as the receiver connected it began to download updates and install them . I installed the provided batteries in the remote control and used the remote to turn on the internal FM radio . I had a staticky connection until I plugged in the included radio antenna . I immediately began to receive my local stations ,crystal clear. I paired the receiver with the bluetooth on my phone and turned on and played Spotify. There is an audio-out port on the front of the unit for headphones. Another hint for me that this receiver is intended for audiophiles is the manual CD player . As I disposed of our old stereo/receiver (before getting this Technics unit)my husband reminded me that it was the CD changer in the old unit that had damaged some of our CDs . I think that just as people who care about their LPโs change records manually , people who are serious about music probably avoid CD changers. I canโt report on the turntable function as I no longer have a turntable . (Although I still have LPs) At one point it appeared that I was having an issue with jumpy volume control . I checked the other functions (radio and CD) and discovered that the problem only occurred when I was playing Spotify from my phone. I switched to streaming Spotify from my computer and the problem stopped. So I guess my phone was somehow causing the problem. This receiver retains its settings after being not just turned off, but cut off from power. I decided not to use the app; but for someone using the app, this Technics SA C-100 is capable of more sophisticated functions such as adjusting the sound to the environment.

Another Classic From Technics!
I've always had Technics products but I usually wait quite a while before refreshing certain pieces of hardware. I tend to have a pretty consistent "tech refresh" period for different types of hardware - Desktop PCs every seven years or so, Laptop every four years or so, television every eight years or so, stereo stuff every fifteen years or so. Let's just say, I'm very behind on my stereo update and have been dreaming of a new Amp/Receiver for ages. My previous one was a Technics from the late 90s. This one is exactly the one I wanted and I'm so excited to leave a detailed review - The fully digital amplifier with the Technics JENO engine provides MUCH clearer sound than my model from the late 90s. It provides plenty of power for my relatively modest space and my entire living room is MORE than full of beautiful clear sound with the amplifier provided in this thing. I've tested it with various formats for both streaming and CDs and have had no issues. Wide support here for various types of media and I really appreciate how many methods there are for playing from various audio sources. I tested with Bluetooth streaming, Wi-Fi, and LAN. I also tested with Spotify through the dedicated app (my streaming service of choice) and everything played without bugs or issues. A nice touch is the room calibration, which allows for presets for different speaker placements and the option for more detailed adjustment with an iOS device. Having recently purchased a new record player, I have very much enjoyed the high-quality phono stage, the USB DAC, and the CD receiver supports Super Audio CDs for the absolute highest quality audio. The design itself is very nice with an elegant and futuristic appearance. Brushed aluminum top plates with cooling openings and the top-loading CD player are visually appealing and the front panel OLED display is nice with great touch-controls. Overall, this is a 10/10 piece of hardware and I couldn't be happier with it!

Expensive, but is it worth it?
This one I am torn a bit on. Its over $1k, but what does it all do? Its a CD player, amplifier, and receiver with FM radio and built in Chromecast and Network Streaming. So if you need a compact setup, you can hook speakers directly up to this and connect your turntable to it as well. It has bluetooth to be able to stream to as well as bluetooth transmit so you can transmit the audio to another bluetooth enabled item like a speaker or stereo receiver. This does not have any kind of audio out connection on it other than than the bluetooth transmit function. Setting it up is easy and was able to get it connected to my home stereo setup via bluetooth transmit function. The sound is good, but getting a CD in and out of the player is a bit more difficult than it should be. There is no tray, you have to press it down on the spindle and pull up to remove it, for this price point, it should be a more seamless function. It will stream Amazon music and Spotify and both of those worked just fine. There are some others it shows in the manual but I am not familiar with them. If you have a network music server setup, this can stream from that as well. I recommend you go to their website and download the manual so you can see all the functions it has as the description on the page is not very good nor clear about what this actually does. I was not able to test the sound on the speaker output side, but I can imagine its not as good as my Pioneer Elite THX setup, I only tested the bluetooth transmit function and it sounded good. Is it better than a dedicated stand alone CD player? For me it would be hard to tell the difference. So the big question is, is this worth the price tag? I think there is a place for this and would probably get more traction if it was cheaper. If you need a compact setup that is pretty much all in one, then this may be ok for you. I think piecing out a system is a better way to go and you will have a nicer system for a better price. I would bump this up to a 4 start rating if it was around $500 because at the current price, its too much for what it is.

Almost Awesome... Hampered by Underpowered Amp
First, a little preface on my setup before this Technics unit entered the mix. I've been working from home for over 8 years now and spend a large part of my day (5-6 hrs.) listening to music while I work. I mainly use Spotify on my PC connected via a DAC converter (line in) to a Monoprice Pure Tube Stereo Amplifier. I have a set of Atlantic Technology 4400 LR speakers paired with an HSU Research TN-1225 HO Subwoofer. A pretty decent setup for daily listening that often gets cranked up to fairly loud levels for extending periods while working. Since I have a lot of music CDs that have been sitting on the shelf unused. I was excited to try out this Technics unit with built in CD player in place of my usual Monoprice unit. Before getting down to how it performs, I want to clarify a couple of inaccurate things I'm seeing on some of the other reviews. - For speaker wire connections, you can use banana plugs! There are little plastic plugs on the ends of the speaker terminals that have to be pulled out first before you can use the banana plug connections. I included an image of mine connected this way. - There are tone controls available on the unit without using the app (but they are also on the app)! You can access them using the setup button found on the remote. Images included showing tone control screens. For Spotify, I set up the Technics similar to the Monoprice unit using the same DAC connection (line in) from PC. This works without issue. I also tested Airplay through my iPhone 14 Pro and had great results as well. So, how does the SA-C100 sound? Sound is detailed and mostly clear with very good soundstage. I say mostly clear because the 50-watt amp is rated for 4-ohm speakers and with my 8-ohm Atlantic Technology speakers it's more like 35 watts. The result is I can sometimes hear distortion on peaks when playing at the desired volume. The amp is just too underpowered for these 8-ohm speakers even though they are fairly efficient with 90db sensitivity. This limited power rated for 4-ohms makes speaker selection quite important with this unit. Compounding the issue is there are not a lot of 4-ohm speakers on the market. It's interesting to note there's a more expensive version of this unit, the SA-C600 that is 60 watts per channel (not available on Amazon), but really, that's not much more power compared to the SA-C100. Another issue I have with the sound is that after a couple of hours of listening, I find I get severe ear fatigue with the Technics unit. It doesn't matter if I'm listening to a compressed source like Spotify or a CD. This is not something that happens with the Monoprice tube amp I normally use. With that amp, I can go hours at loud levels with no ear fatigue. I don't know if this is just the difference between the warmer sound of tubes like the Monoprice unit uses vs solid state amplification, or something specific with the Technics unit. Unfortunately, I don't have another solid-state amplifier to compare with so hard to know. I tried setting tone controls and speaker toe-in to limited success. It's possible another brand of speakers may pair better with the unit. I do enjoy having the CD capability on the SA-C100 and the sound quality on the player is good enough that I can tell the difference between a CD and lossy format like Spotify. The top load cover that swivels left of right to open the CD bay works but is best treated with some finesse... seems like the thing that would be first to break if mishandled. Having the light where you can see the CD spinning is a nice cosmetic touch. Technics give you a wide range of control options which I like. There are touch controls on the front of the unit along with a more traditional remote, and also app control. It's worth noting that there's a room equalization feature (found in Space Tune section) that is only available through the app which will measure room acoustics and set a custom curve. It really does improve the sound quality versus picking one of the preset options. Overall, while sound is quite good and there are a wide range of playback options, with a highlight being the CD player, the underpowered amplifier (and ear fatigue issue) keeps this from being a replacement for my usual Monoprice unit. That being said, there are a lot of factors at play that can influence how this unit sounds and performs. Maybe the right set of 4-ohm speakers will push this player to another level and solve those issues. There's enough good here that I'll probably buy another set of speakers to try out with this SA-C100... will update my review with results if I do.

For the Audiophile!
For a while now I've been bemoaning the disappearance of the Audiophile. It seemed like no one was catering to people that want their music to sound GOOD.... I mean really good. I would fall into that group and I was beginning to get frustrated. You just can't get good audio gear without spending thousands of dollars. I'm an audio engineer (award winning) and my home stereo set up couldn't hold a candle to my studio set up. To get anywhere close to my studio gear it would have been necessary to spend way more money than I've got to spend. Compound my frustration with the fact that I've been hanging onto a pair of really nice speakers. Enter the Technic SA C-100 Receiver. It's no wonder they use the word premium. I've had the receiver for about 6 months now and I still can't quit smiling. Even when streaming MP's from various streaming services, I'm once again getting the kind of awesome sound that I've been wanting for quite a while now. I could go over all the cool ways this receiver works but there will be tons of those. I want to tell you how it SOUNDS.... and it sounds amazing. Yeah, I said it, it sounds amazing and it's at a cost that's a LOT less than all kinds of high dollar gear out there. I know a lot of people don't hold a lot of stock in reviews on Amazon, especially Vine reviewers like my self. Do not let that stop you on this receiver. It's crystal clear with what it does. There's no detectable noise from the amplifier and let's just face facts here. There's nothing that can compare to a new piece of gear that will put a smile on your face. The Technic SA C-100 will definitely put a smile on your face.

CD player made noise, but would not spin
Unit looked perfect. However CD unit did not work. Manufacturers response, return to where you bought it. In addition, the app, at least the IOS version, is poorly done and does not have a rating over a 1 star. Poor connection, poor control, etc., of the features beside the CD that it is supposed to have. The app for this is one of those that wants to run your household items, including Alexa. Sound is OK, but not stellar. No base or treble adjustment. Not a product I would recommend.
