I've never played a far cry game, so i wouldn't know. are the far cry games worth getting into?

I'd say try Far Cry 4 first which is i believe $25 on Amazon right now. Far Cry 4 was my first FC game and i absolutely loved it. The story, the game play, the graphics. Everything. I will be buying FC5 very soon.

Do I need to play the other games to understand the story?

you do not need to because they are all their own stories, but they are some awesome games that you can get for cheap right now!!

Does this include preorder bonuses?

Buyer beware- Amazon advertised the preoder bonuses for Destiny 2 on the page and then didn't send out the codes stating it wasn't part of the purchase, despite screenshots showing they advertised it. They eventually released it a week later after it was all obsolete. I realize this is a different developer, but Amazon does have that snafu on another major game release. Honestly, I'd buy the game here for the 20% prime discount. If useless skins are valuable to you...let's just say I'd hate for them to bait and switch again.

Can I give the digital code to a friend in Texas to use

You can buy the digital version of the game and do that. You can buy the physical game and have it shipped to your friend.
