Great value and excellent performance for a small router
The AX57 GO is about the size of a DVD case, yet within a small house, the 5GHz Ookla speedtest from upstairs to downstairs is effectively the same as my ASUS BQ16 transmitting Full Fibre 500 on 5GHz. It has one WAN and one LAN input, underlining the intent as a WiFi router: this is at 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Anyone with an ASUS router will recognise the configuration setup, but there is also the 4G / 5G input plus the slide switch that changes some of the configuration to set up too. Nice touches are the plush travel bag for the router and cables, and a clip-on stand so that the router can sit vertically on the work surface. With the exception on a MAC Mini, all of my routers and motherboards are ASUS and they have been 100% reliable, although the routers run 24/7. The AX57 GO will run intermittently, but it looks as though it could join my continuously running routers that are currently a BQ16 and BT10.

Worth every penny
Fantastic little router covers the hole house and very fast . Easy to set up and has a great app would recommend add a 5 port switch to your basket as this only has 1 rj46 out .

RT-AX57 GO intermittend not good for home use
RT-AX57 GO AX3000 used as range extender at home. is really bad for me... worked ok initially but i suspect that its causing issues for our internet. When we move feom room to room we lose internet (MESH its called.. all other "things" are asus mesh as well) its in general not great and sometimes even blinks yellow and needs resetting for what reasons? idk.. so it works but im not happy with it and going to replace it - meaning money wasted.

Asus RT-AX57 - Silly name, Great product.
For clarity - you do need a separate mobile data / internet connection for this to work as a router. This does not have a SIM slot. Took about 5 minutes to setup and get working. Phone plugs into the USB port, set the phone into USB tethering, and the AX-57 detects and connects. The phone takes power from the USB port. The unit itself is deceptively small. The app looks more complicated than it actually is, as it's quite feature packed, but once your PC/Laptop is connected, you can use your web browser to manage the device. I bought this because I tether to a Samsung S21 as my main internet source, and this broadcasts the 5Ghz Wi-Fi band in channel 149, and none of my devices would connect on 5Ghz, which is frustrating. I get really good 5G mobile signal - 200-300Mbs at the phone - but was only able to get 30-40Mbs to my PC at a range of 5-6 meters. Through the AX-57, I can connect at 5Ghz, and I'm getting between 150-200Mbs at my PC. Only minor negative point I have is that the quick start guide is pretty much useless - unbox, plug in, scan QR code to download app - so if you're looking for the comfort of a manual or troubleshooting guide, I'd suggest downloading something from the Asus website before starting. Bought on an early spring offer for £62, does exactly what I was expecting and hoping for, and I think represents really good value, especially when you consider a dedicated router with a SIM slot will be upwards of £200+ EDIT:: Updates 24/05/26 I've been using this for over a year, so figured it was time to update the review to a long term test. In short, I've not had any issues with the AX-57 at all. The unit updates itself automatically periodically, which will drop the USB tethering, so if you find yourself without internet access, check your phone's tethering settings. It's been solid, reliable and dependable, which is exactly what I need. If you're close enough to a 5G mast (I'm ~400m away), team this up with a cheap unlimited 5G SIM (£16/m from Smarty on a Black Friday deal, £20 normally), and you've got a cheap as chips internet connection that can rival fixed line provider offerings.

Useful travel router, but only UK and European plugs
I have no complaints about this router except that if you buy it in the UK it comes with only two plugs, for the UK and Europe. So though the router and its PSU are lightweight and the PSU comes with lightweight interchangeable plug attachments, you have to add a bulky adapter if you're traveling to North America. Australia etc. Not great for a "travel router". I chose it because when I'm not traveling it can function as an extra node in the home Asus ZenWifi mesh, and Asus's hardware and software are solid. This router's wifi signal is not as strong as their full-sized routers, mesh nodes and extenders, but it should be good for most travel situations and for plugging dead spots at home.

Makes a great AiMesh node
The RT-AX57 Go is a bit of an odd duck on paper because ASUS markets it as a travel router, but it makes a perfectly respectable (and relatively inexpensive) AiMesh node when used with other ASUS kit. I've no idea what it's like as a router but as an AiMesh mode it is excellent. I attached it to my existing ASUS RT-AX86U Pro router and at last got a signal into our back garden ready for some outdoor home working when Summer comes around again. It also delivered a stronger signal to the kitchen and devices in the back of the house both upstairs and down. An overall improvement with WiFi connection from router to node. Later I'll connect it via Ethernet and let the AX57 use wired backhaul for improved speed. AiMesh set up instructions were difficult to find but eventually I discovered that all I needed to do was start up the AX57, go to the ASUS router app and use the 'Add node' function on the Home screen. The app found and added the node within a few minutes. Once connected, firmware updating was also via the app. The unit is small and, being plain white with no garish LEDs, is unobtrusive in a domestic setting. Included are a stand to place the unit horizontally thus saving desk space, and a thin but serviceable carry bag.

No good as travel router
Sadly it's a fiddle to set up (I've had Asus routers for years and I know the software). Didn't find host network in access point or repeater mode. Finds host network in wisp more but loses it on reboot. Out of return window, no support on Amazon, can't return to Asus. Luckily it works fine as an additional mesh node in the house

Stop looking for a travel router, get this.
I have been after a travel router for ages, tried a few, always seemed to be one thing or another. Got this one for its ability to be anything you need. At home I use it on Access Point to improve the home Wifi and I use ethernet to a network switch. On the go I use WISP as a travel router and in hotels my devices just connect as expected. I haven't tried the USB as a modem but I do use the USB with a HDD at home creating a private cloud / NAS. Works perfectly, does everything, you won't find a better router for travel or adding a NAS to your LAN. Signal is strong and it can be powered by a USB charger, although it takes a lot, mind you my USB charger is awesome but old. I ran this off the usual travel charger I take, a hotels USB C socket and my USB charger. Works great off anything, so versatile.
