So Much More Powerful Than It Looks
I expected nothing and I'm so so glad I took a chance.I had been on the hunt for an induction cooker but had been having a little trouble finding a good one with so many overwhelming options. When I picked this one I was basically just giving it a shot but I was wary, especially with how heavily it advertised itself as being sized for a Moka Pot (never had one, no clue what size they are, and from the picture I was assuming it to basically be only so big for a kettle)Instead this cooker is pretty sizable. It was impressed with its weight and heft, it doesn't give you the impression of flimsiness and I am SO SO SO glad I got the one with handles because while you can move it once you're done cooking this baby gets hot. In fact it gets so hot that if I didn't have the option with handles I'd have absolutely needed oven mitts to move it out of the way. The heat definitely lingered and I had to basically set it aside for about 30 minutes once I was done because the heat was such I was concerned about getting burned.Beyond that though this was so effective and good. I basically busted this out when another induction cooker left me wanting and I was shocked by how much better it was. The induction pan had a nice smooth surface and cooked so evenly. It was able to heat up a 4 qt stock pot that was just a little bit bigger without there being any cold spots. It was very easy to use, just plug in and turn on. I did have an experience where it seemed to 'cut off' when it got to a certain level of hot but I could basically turn it back on by increasing the dial a little.I'm not sure if that's a flaw or a feature but it was definitely cause for concern and I will be consulting the manual. The price is excellent and I'd say its low enough that you could get a couple for your kitchen needs. My stove is currently indisposed and this was so good that I immediately felt relief knowing I'd be able to cook tot the level I'm comfortable with even on a smaller stove.

Works Even Better Than Expected
The directions for this said that there would be a plastic smell the first time you use it and suggested taking it outside and letting it burn off the smell for fifteen minutes. I didn't do that because I figured I could take it outside if the smell was too strong. Plus, it was being used by a kitchen window that could be opened. I honestly never smelled any type of plastic smell. It also said it took about two minutes for it to heat up and I think it was a little quicker than that. I have very little hot plate experience that comes from a double burner one my mother bought me years ago that I was lucky if I used it once a year. This one heats up quicker than that one and surprised me by starting to cook the egg's bottom as soon as it hit the pan with the temperature set in the middle. I sure wasn't expecting that because the other hot plate wouldn't have done that so quickly even if it had been set on high. I was actually pretty impressed by its performance. It heated quickly and seemed to cook evenly. I think it's a great little hot plate for the modest retail. I also think it would be highly giftable because it works really well and hot plates come in handy sometimes even if you have a stove.

What I would expect of a portable single burner.
It heats quickly, doesn't take up much space and really performs like any standard burner would be expected to perform. Its about the size of a regular stove burner and could easily accommodate a medium sauce pan.It does not have a temperature indicator which I think would be nice but probably overextends this items price point. I used a digital thermometer to read the hotplate temperatures and could see the temps rise and fall over time as I adjusted the temp knob accordingly. I don't think the numbers I was reading from the cooktop surface would be a spot on match to the pan temperature but maybe in the ballpark. It did attempt to regulate heat with a thermostat / light switching on and off accordingly.Compared to some hotplates that are much more expensive, this is no frills but functional. I'm not sure this one will do lots of cooking for me but I have some workshop uses in mind. One thing I did notice was that during testing on its highest setting, I never felt the cord get warm at all. I was outside, mid 50 degrees with the cord fully extended. I've noticed other cords on similar appliances get quite warm. it seemed like a good thing that this one did not.

Best addition to a college dorm!
If you have a kid in college, or you are shopping for a graduate, going to college, this makes a great gift! Without having stoves in dorms, kids are really limited on the food they can make. My child cannot even have a toaster in their dorm. This hot plate allows them to be able to use a pan to make soup or boil pasta in as well as putting a small frying pan on it to make eggs. My daughters RA at her school looked up their codes and did not find any restrictions against having a hot plate in the rulebook so for our case, it was acceptable to have in her dorm. This has really made so much sense for my daughter and has saved us a lot of money on dining plans since she has been able to make so much more food for herself

Great for portable living.
I live and travel in an RV, running on solar power and batteries. Because of my low consumption lifestyle, I'm always looking for quick, easy and no fuss ways to prepare food.I have so many different types of small electronic cooking gadgets ranging from hot pots and AirFryers. Airfryers can take almost 2000w of power which can run down my batteries significantly.Using the propane stove requires using expensive canisters of gas, and of course a flame which I try to use less inside the RV for safety reasons. This little 500w rangetop actually took 464w of power and I was able to easily cook on my mini cast iron skillet efficiently. Cleanup was a breeze, just wipe off the cast iron, let the cooktop cool for 10 minutes and put it all away.GREAT!

Good heating surface, retaining heat well.
I like this hot plate. That is not for heating coffee pot (moca pot) or heating water but also for cooking. Although it needs time to heat up but once it heat up the hot plate retains heat very well. The unit is well made. The hot plate is wide for versatility.
