Peak Air-Dried Dog Food – All Natural, High Protein, Grain Free and Limited Ingredient with Superfoods (Mackerel and Lamb, 8.8 lb)

I like this as it's compact and cut into small squares and thus is great for dog training as each square makes a good quality treat. This means that my dog can work for a good half of his ration, whether scatter feeding or rewards for being a good boi. Disappointed that a good half of the bag was crumb, broken pieces. Not so easy to use as rewards, and wasteful in scatter feeding as they seem to be wasted.

I wholeheartedly believe a raw diet is the best diet for dogs but found that it was very time consuming to prepare my dogs food myself and I constantly feared I was missing vital nutrients, vitamins or minerals. I purchased this food for convenience for the pet sitter when I went on vacation. My dogs loved it! I have now consistently been feeding it for several years now and my dogs are happy and at peak health. I find it best to figure out the calories your dog needs, they have an easy calculator, and weigh the food out rather than using a measuring cup. For my 70 pound, lazy dog, she gets 3.8 ounces of the chicken flavor in the morning and 4.2 ounces of the mackerel and lamb at night to meet her calorie needs. Weighing the food is best due to the way the food is made, you can have inconsistent sizes of food which will fill the cup differently. Some complain that this food is overpriced. Once you calculate your dog’s caloric needs, this food becomes more cost effective, especially compared to other high quality, pre-prepared, raw diet foods. It is also more convenient. Some complain that there are crumbles and powder in their bags. It is important to remember that this is an all natural food meaning there are no fillers such as starches. Starches are what make other foods firm and crunchy. So yes, you can expect some crumbles, sometimes more than others depending on the handling of the bags. However, the crumbles and powder are not wasted!! They are still high nutrient food. Don’t throw them away. My dogs happily licks them up from the bowl. This is another reason it’s best to weigh the food. My somewhat complaint. I’m not going to lie, the food kind of stinks, but it’s a raw diet so that is to be expected it’s just one of the downfalls. The chicken flavor isn’t bad, but the mackerel & lamb? Well, it’s fish and lamb so it shouldn’t be surprising. What is surprising, is that it doesn’t linger on my dogs breath. My complaint. They recently changed their packaging and I am not a fan. The bags used to have strong handles at the tops of the bags, they sealed back up easily and they had a perfect size scoop in them. Now there are no handles, no scoop, and sometimes I have to work the ziplock type seal. Hands down, will continue to feed and recommend this food!

Ziwi is full of goodness for my 9 month old Hungarian Vizsla

I took one star off because we didn’t receive a scooper. We will see if my pup can tolerate this as her main diet. We had to stop giving kibble as she’s allergic to yeast products. Most kibble has yeast in it or ingredients that may increase yeast production in the body. I love this is such high % of protein. She has a lot of wounds healing and this will definitely help her. I’ve been making her homemade diet and that also is expensive. I like this is ready to use, and the taste and freshness seems to be A+. I bought this years ago for treats for her. I had stopped because I thought she was allergic. After receiving pathology and allergy testing results it seems she is severely allergic to yeast and fungi. Both that can be found in kibble, bigger bag you buy the more chance the food will spoil before your pup eats it. I did purchase 8.8 lbs as it is cheaper to invest in more at a time. Given she’s 66 lbs we will go through this fast… hopefully I can get this to stretch for at least 20-21 days at $199.99 a bag. Worth it for her getting healthy! I’ll post a later update for when she’s all healed and hopefully still on this food! Stay tune!

I regularly bought Ziwi from various pet stores online & in person when on sale since it's very pricey. This is the first time I've purchased it from Amazon & I was pleasantly surprised to see the expiration date was for over 1 year when it arrived today😀 I'm guessing this is a fresh batch because most places do not have the 8.8lb Mackerel in stock. FYI it does smell like fish which you'd expect. I use it as a healthy training treat when my dogs were puppies and they eat about 2.5 scoops a day total between consuming it as treats & dinner. My dogs are 50 & 70lbs Nordic breed. I volunteer for rescue and have not had a sled dog breed that hasn't loved it with no digestive problems. They have all transitioned to it well. The food is very rich high protein so I would not feed it solely. My dogs do well with 50% Ziwi+50% fresh made.
