Worried Your Keystone Jacks Won't Fit This Panel? READ THIS!!
The most difficult decision for me on purchasing a Patch Panel was if I could fill all 24 ports with the Keystone jacks I had. So many reviews of every make and model of patch panels had at least several reviews claiming their "standard" Keystone jacks were too wide causing a bunching up effect where you could only fill 2 or 3 ports before you had to skip a port because the ports were too close to one another, or the Keystone jacks were too wide for 24 to actually fill the entire panel. This became my primary worry on what to buy and even emails to to companies were either unanswered or I received an email saying "their brand" of Keystone jacks would work but they couldn't say if other brands, even really popular brands, would work or not. So I looked at them all, and I wanted one with a built in cord stress relief tray that I could tie the ethernet cords to so they wouldn't move. So I chose this model from TRENDnet with every intention of immediately returning it if I couldn't easily populate ALL 24 ports with my "standard" CAT6 RJ45 Keystone jacks from Monoprice and Cable Matters. I've always liked Monoprice Keystone jacks and although a bit pricey, they've always worked for me. The older style version they had for years had a cord relief "ladder" attached to the back as well if you wanted to zip tie the ethernet cable to it. The Monoprice ones were the only Keystone jacks I ever found that had these. So I have a bunch of them from over the years. BE WARNED however that just in the last month or so (currently April 2022 at time of writing) that Monoprice has come out with a new standard Keystone jack and I cannot speak about these yet as I don't have any yet. So when I talk about the Monoprice Keystone jacks I'm talking about the jacks they've had for the past 5 years or more and NOT the new design ones, which by the way, don't have that cord relief ladder on the back anymore. (you can see this in one of the photos where a Cable Matters jack and an older Monoprice jack are shown side-by-side) Because of the new design of the Monoprice ones (and their excessive price), I set out to find ones as close as possible to the "old" Monoprice ones and found them in the current Cable Matters Keystone jacks. Literally identical to the old Monoprice ones but without the cord relief ladder at the back. Got them for a much better price here on Amazon.ca, especially if you guy them in the 25 or 50 pack. So the TRENDnet patch panel arrived today and photos I've attached show the rack FULLY populated with 24 Cable Matters Keystone jacks. These are the "standard ones" (see the photo for actual dimensions) and they are NOT the "slim" versions. You'll see there was no problem at all filling all 24 holes with the standard Cable Matters Keystone jacks! (the photos with all the jacks being white are the Cable Matters jacks) I then removed them all, and populated the panel with the older style Monoprice Keystone jacks. They fit perfectly too! I actually only had 23 of the older Monoprice ones on had so you'll notice in the photo (with the blue, yellow and white jacks) I used a Cable Matters Keystone in Port 23 (you'll notice the absence of the cord relief ladder on that one), So as the photos prove above, older style "regular" sized Monoprice Keystone jacks fit perfectly in this panel and you can populate all 24 holes. Same for the current "regular" sized Cable Matters Keystone jacks! 100% no problem with these two brands. The rack itself is beautiful! Nice black powder coated black metal and the cord relief rack is integrated into the panel so it's a single piece. This panel is also is what they call "insulated" in that it has an additional metal strip with port holes in it just a bit back from the black face part. It's an all metal design with no plastic parts. May people apparently prefer a plastic front as they say the Keystone's fit tighter than in a metal panel, but I can say all the Keystones snapped in nice and secure. There is a very, very, tiny bit of back and forth play if you don't have other jacks on either side, but it's barely even noticeable unless you actually try and wiggle them. And if you've ever tried to remove a Keystone jack from a panel once their in, you'll be glad you got one like this that is all metal. You crack a plastic face plate and there is no fixing it. All the Keystones from both the older style Monoprice and the current Cable Matters ones clicked in super easy and strong, and came out reasonably well with a slight bit of pressure at the right spot with a flat headed screw driver and then they pop out easily with no damage. I spent the time to take photos of this panel with both jacks from the older style Monoprice and the current style Cable Matters as I thought it important for prospective buyers to see for themselves that they actually DO fit, despite numerous reviews claiming they don't. THEY DO!!! At least on this "insulated" version of this panel that has the cord relief rack built into it. So if getting a patch panel has been held up by not knowing if your "standard" Keystone jacks will actually fit, and at least if you use the old style Monoprice or the current Cable Matters jacks, you can order this panel with complete confidence. It appears super sturdy and well made and I'm fully happy with it. It does come with a bag of small zip-ties but it does NOT come with rack screws, so be aware of that up front. All in all, it's EXACTLY the 24-port CAT6 Keystone patch panel I was looking for!!! Hope this review helps others that were in my position worrying over you could actually populate all 24 holes!
