A good quality summer novel of action and thrills
While browsing for some light summer reading, I came across the Gregg Loomis novels featuring the Langford Reilly character and decided to give one a try. The Pegasus Secret seemed to be the right place to start, so I ordered (downloaded to my Kindle) it and began reading...I like many different types of books, but when I'm looking for some recreational reading I prefer the suspense/thriller over most other genre. Loomis does a nice job of delivering on the time-proven formula of reluctant hero, international and historical intrigue, sinister conspiracies, and plenty of action and adventure. I have a problem sometimes reviewing such subjective entertainment media as books, movies, and music - because the reasons I like or dislike something may not relate in any way to most others.I found Pegasus to be a very good and entertaining read, and I enjoyed the book. Here's what I liked about it: The main character, Lang Reilly is a likeable man, with imperfect qualities but a sound moral compass. The plot involves a great deal of historical interest, largely fictional but interesting nonetheless. The bad guys are mysterious and sinister, but as you move through the book they become less one dimensional. Of course, there is conspiracy, some light romance, and good motivation. That is not to say that the book doesn't follow the "thriller" outline so closely that parts become predictable.... they do. But I don't mind overlooking the small literary shortcomings in order to enjoy the read. I wasn't looking for the next American Lit Classic here.I take away only one star for the format following nature of the plot, and the predictability of the characters. If you like page turning action novels that you can finish in a weekend or over a short vacation, then this is a winner. To bolster my rating, I have since purchased several more Lang Reilly novels, and have enjoyed them all.

A Gnostic Mystery
A fast paced read with plenty of drama…murders, suspense and an interesting plot. Not to be a spoiler but the underlying theme of this novel reminded me of Another Roadside Attraction, Tom Robbins first novel.

A new hero to discover
I had not read any of this author's books before. I must admit I was pleasantly surprised. This book is an enjoyable if lightweight read. I can see it becoming a movie of sorts.... a cross between the Matt Damon series (spies etc.) and the Da Vinci code. You travel from country to country chasing the Holy Grail - perhaps - but all the while learning more about the Templars and their role in history. The only criticism would be that the author loads up "Britishisms" rather too much and - as a Brit - it becomes irritating.

Secrets of the Past
I enjoyed this book because it was fast-paced but also gave many historical facts about early Christianity. I had not given martyrdom and torture, done in the name of God and the Holy Catholic Church, much thought. So it was good to be reminded of the horrors that were done even that long ago. The Knights Templar interaction was a nice touch, but occasionally the plot seemed a little contrived. It was interesting how the author tied up the proverbial loose ends from several different places in time so they became a satisfactory conclusion.

Interesting facts and conjecture concerning Jesus' body. Great action read
Loomis's protagonist fights against overwhelming odds against large adversaries w/almost unlimited resources and yet the situation's are well enough written that you enjoy suspending your disbelief and enjoy the twists of fate and his cunning while also becoming attached to his characters.I especially enjoy his competency in weaving in lots of historical information

A good try for the first thriller book of the series
This is another Catholic conspiracy novel. There was certainly danger for the main characters, but the story was interrupted several times by memoirs of a young person who was part of the Templars, which didn't make much sense when the stories were inserted. However, the novel introduced some characters who would be important in later stories.

Hard to put down
I really liked this book. Had all the elements of a great thriller. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because of the ending. I mean.....what was that???? The dog died?....didn't die?....was suddenly resurrected?......it was a dream?.....Maybe I missed something?I have the second book in the series. Looking forward to starting it.

The Pegasus Secret
A typical thriller with twists in the plot with the hero getting all of the lucky breaks to solve the crime.

good until the final page
Show don’t tell. Good read until that last page. Please rewrite the ending… turned from a rip snorter to maudlin in the space of one scene.

An enjoyable ripping yarn
OK this is not a literary tour de force but the bottom line is I enjoyed this story. A previous reviewer seems to me to be overly critical over place names, editorial niceties etc. Escapist fiction should allow you to, for a short time at least, forget about the bills, the boss and the bank manager and for me The Pegasus Secret did just that. The measure of whether you consider a book 'good' or not is if you are prepared to lavish some of your hard earned on any other works the author produces, I have done just that.
