Great marketing game plans for personal trainers
I am changing careers after 35 years in sales and marketing to pursue a personal trainers career. Not only has Ben Greenfield written and excellent guide for beginners like me but for seasoned personal trainers that want to maximize their time and improve their client billing. It is a well thought out format and easy to follow. Ben has accomplished a great deal in a very short time frame and if you read his work you will get a feel for the type of dedication and professional example he sets for the industry. Ben provides references to many sources that will help personal trainers get their name and offerings out to the public that we all want to serve.

Lacking the spirit of exercise
Greenfield clearly states his objective: to teach you how to make money with the intent of acquiring wealth, not to teach you to become a better trainer possessing useful knowledge to help others. In most civilized societies money plays a large role in defining the success of an individual. The pursuit of money, the acquisition of wealth, and monetary gain is a great individual undertaking of the protestant ethic and the spirit of capitalism that extends throughout history. However, making money for the sake of making more money is forever a renewed profit which creates more desires than it can satisfy and can contribute to a human being's misery. A person of high character generally dismisses the life of money-making since it does not play a role in making him a better human being. The goal of making money is only useful for the sake of more external goods, which causes a person's happiness to become erratic and causes great changes in a person's soul keeping him from becoming stable or happy. These are some of the reasons why the goal of making money does not consist in happiness. If Greenfield claims to have a master's degree in sports science and exercise physiology, but his intention is to help you make money, then he disqualifies himself on two accounts: (1) he dismisses his own education, and therefore, excludes himself from being a credible ambassador on fitness, nutrition, and training, and (2) he regresses the quality of training by the trainer for the sake of making money. Character, education, experience, and enthusiasm make a successful trainer and human being, not advertising strategies and technological know-how to maximize income. Clients who claim that they have become "more educated" by Greenfield, even claiming they have gotten great results, can only boast what Greenfield fails to impart: the spirit of exercise. Do not waste your precious dollars on this ego-inflated book.

Great Book
This has been the best and most concise resource to fitness marketing I have seen to date. I have only been in the industry about a year after leaving Law School. This book gave me an incredible peace of mind and inside understanding of the industry. There are advanced ideas but also wonderful starter steps for beginners. There isn't a lot of fluff - it is well written. It's actually an easy read although the total business plan may take a longer time to fully implement depended on what city you are in, but is the first-best resource I have read on automated fitness. Highly Recommended. Ben knows his stuff in general.

Ben Greenfield -Great Resource!
Ben Greenfield is wise beyond his years and this wisdom permeates this book. There is knowhow needed to be successful in this market. Ben gives pearl after pearl of useful insights in how to break into the market, so you don't waste time and money on things that just spin your wheels. Using his techniques we have been able to target our public and communicate with them so effectively that they want to become a client. If you buy only one book on this subject, this is the one I'd recommend. You won't be disappointed. David Minkoff MD, Medical Director BodyHealth Inc and Lifeworks Wellness Center.
