Super bright, versitile and underpriced with home and 'car' chargers.
This baby is one of the best flashlights I've seen. The first one was bought sight unseen, counting on what I was able to make of it off Amazon.com. I've just bought a second one. You'll appreciate the performance and value of this flashlight for the price. It's super bright for paths and trails or trying to find that lost pet (or pest) in the neighborhood at night. It is really nice to be free from replacing batteries all the time.It is a reliable light and doesn't just quit putting out light when I was using it a long time. Others have also noted, as I do, that it operates well past the "estimated 2 hour runtime" that is stated on the packaging. It doesn't need to be brought home for a recharge since it comes with two types of chargers (AC and 12VDC), thus it can be recharged from a car or truck. See Note 1I have also seen the dimming beam/brown spot (someone else mentioned in their review) appear after about 9 months of use. The packaging states the LED is an "LIFETIME BULB, Never replace!" and sent it back under that implied warranty for correction since it no longer was brighter than my 200 lumen flashlight bulb (that sounds like reason to be replaced to me). See Note 2Although the warranty is for only one year, the bulb is to last a lifetime, and I like that. The aluminum case feels good in the hands (my wife's too) and feels well made. I'm going to attach a lanyard to it to make it easier to get to. See Note 3The packaging states the flashlight will take a 3 ft/1 m drop but I am grateful it has survived a 5 ft drop off the breakfast bar unscathed and an un-casual let-go drop-toss (visualize it) on the sidewalk. There is no mention of weather/water proofing but the flashlight is reasonably weatherproofed. I've used it while walking the dogs at night in heavy pouring rain without any problems. See Note 4BTW: This flashlight looks like the very same one Catherin Willows and Nick Stokes on CSI LV uses. I don't know if I'd use it in crime fighting, but I do get a satisfaction of the solid endcap if I needed to wallop an aggressive something or someone. If I were the designer of this flashlight I would make a few changes. It's easy being an armchair quarterback in that sense. But would my design changes keep this flashlight affordable like this one is? Oh, one more thing - this is not a kid's toy. It is a tool that has gotten the appreciation and respect of those who have seen it in use.Note 1: It doesn't mention using it plugged into a charger at the same time, and I don't recommend it since the charger puts out a higher voltage than the charged batteries. A higher voltage is needed to recharge the batteries and you could send too much voltage to the LED and damage it (cooking the LED). There is not an 'LED power cutout while recharging feature' most likely to keep the cost of the complete package low.Note 2: For returns, since you bought it off Amazon, you'll now need to visit Dorcy's website and complete their return request form on their website.Note 3: The packaging doesn't state or imply that you have to "drain the batteries" before charging it. It simply states to "Recharge when light becomes dim." It also states to disconnect the charger after the 4 hours it takes to recharge. If you leave the charger on for more time it damages the battery resulting in shortened life. The recharger is the cheaper 'not smart' most likely to kind keep the cost of the complete package low.Note 4: The packaging doesn't state or imply being weatherproof or that it is suitable for underwater use. Possibly because the flashlight can be used with the charging port cover/bezel open. The weatherproof capabilities would be for the user to observe reasonable precautions when using the light and not definitely not submerge it. The recharger is an invasive type (unlike a Sonicare Tooth Brush) to keep the cost of the complete package low.

Awesome Flashlight
I just purchased the Dorcy 41-4299 and it is a excellent flashlight. The only problem is the Ni-Cad battery so purchased a spare battery at dorcydirect.com for only [...] . I also bought a holster for [...] both reasonable prices. It comes with both an A/C and car charger. It was delivered from Amazon in only two days via regular shipping. As for the output, it is certainly as advertised. I have just begun collecting flashlights and this one is a keeper. I compared the Dorcy to my Fenix TK-11 R2 tactical flashlight which I purchased for [...]; twice the price. The R2 is a much smaller tactical flashlight (5" in length) and runs on two CR123A batteries (expensive), it is advertised to have 240 lumens of output and throws the beam over 200 meters. The R2 is a wonderful flashlight; compact and very bright. I tested both outside and the R2's beam reaches the advertised 200M but the beam is not extremely focused at that distance. It has a much wider coverage area than the Dorcy so the light seems to dissipate (more of a flood than a spot). In contrast, the Dorcy seemed to do much better at distance; the beam of light is very strong and focused at 200M, giving a very bright white, concentrated light. I'm assuming that this is due to the size of the reflector. I measured both; the Dorcy 41-4299 has a 2" reflector, the Fenix R2 a 1" reflector. The look of the 41-4299 is very nice. It has a solid button switch on the side of the light. I don't really like the cover to the charging hole because it does not close tightly and can 'jiggle' but it isn't that big a deal. I also have the Dorcy 41-4269 160 lumen flashlight which I purchased for about[...]. For [...]more, get the 41-4299. It's a no brainer and you get a car charger. If you don't mind the size of the Dorcy 41-4299 (8 3/4" length) it is an excellent buy.

When it works it is great, but does not work correctly - JUNK! DO NOT BUY!
Great flashlight when it works..... but it does not work correctly well over half the time. I should have sent this back but no longer have the original plastic that it came in. Seems to be a problem in the switch. Will go from high beam to strobe to low beam...sometimes you have to click the switch several times before it does anything. Is hard to charge...you can often see both the green light and red light when you are charging it. This makes no sense at all. As I said, when it works it is a great light, will throw a beam a long way at night. Very bright and made with nice strong metal construction. But it just does not work right and I imagine I will just throw it away. Total frustration and if anyone at Amazon reads this can I still send it back even though I no longer have the original plastic that it came in? I have the manual and the USB charging cord. Oh yes, one more thing. They include a USB charging cord to charge it on your computer but it does not have the adapter to charge it on your wall socket. How dumb is that? They mention using your wall socket for a quicker charge but do not even include the adapter! I have to use my wall socket adapter from my smart phone to charge this contraption! DO NOT BUY!!!!

Great light - powerful beam and quality construction
The Dorcy 41-4299 Rechargeable LED Flashlight has risen above the other lights I own. The beam is very powerful, with a good middle spot and very wide secondary area of illumination. I also love the light because it has a nice metal construction and good weight to it. If you are using the light someplace where the unexpected may occur (for instance I have to check on vacant warehouse spaces), you feel like it may come in handy in ways besides lighting up the dark.I enjoy that it is a rechargeable light, and it seems to hold a charge very well - even after long periods of not being used.Having used the light for a few years, I bought a second so I could have one in my car and one in the house. I'd recommend this to anyone.

Battery exploded and dangerous product
The toarch was good for two days until I charge them. The toarch starts to heat up and smoke coming up from the battery case. I disconnected from the charger and left out side to cool off. Later I found that the battery covers burned and it was about to explode. I was lucky enough to notice the problem and escape from danger. Never recommend this product and they should remove this from the sales.

... well we have the old style and they were awesome. We bought two and both give poor light ...
Doesn't hold a charge very well we have the old style and they were awesome. We bought two and both give poor light do not keep a charge very long and go on and off the whole time you are trying to use them. Extremely disappointed they do not work as intended and I have had to try to us the old worn out ones.

Dorcy Flashlight Super Bright
Great flashlight. Lights up the whole backyard. Only thing is I thought it could charge into ac/DC outlets like my old one. It charges with USB which didn't last long on my old cell phone, hopefully this will last. USB ports sometimes can be a problem.

Worked Great
Only lasted one year and very minimal use. Now it shuts off and flickers. Not impressed.
