![Assault On Precinct 13 [DVD]](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51FLQeTEGdL.jpg)

Product Description Action-packed remake of the John Carpenter classic. On New Year's Eve, inside an under-manned Detroit police station that's about to be closed for good, officer Jake Roenick (Ethan Hawke) must bring together cops and criminals to save themselves from a group of rogue cops intent on killing mobster Marion Bishop (Laurence Fishburne). desertcart.co.uk Review Action buffs will have a fine time with the spray of bullets, shattering glass, and pyrotechnic silliness that makes up the bulk of Assault on Precinct 13. Updated from the little-known cops-and-robbers classic John Carpenter made in 1976 (two years before he made his name with Halloween), this high-concept thriller is mostly a lowbrow kill-fest, and is very happy with itself for being so efficient in both categories. A decrepit police station on its last night before retirement--New Year's Eve, no less--plays unexpected home to a gang of criminals who become snowbound in the basement lockup. Another mysterious gang of people who stealthily gather in the blizzard outside want one of the particularly nasty criminals (Laurence Fishburne) dead, and they'll take the rest of the precinct down too, by golly. The odd lot of characters trapped inside include a burned-out sergeant (Ethan Hawke), a sexpot secretary (post-Sopranos Drea de Matteo), an even sexier police psychologist (Maria Bello), and various other good guys and bad guys who variously go down in blazes of guts, glory, bullets, and fire. Hawke and Fishburne are opposite sides of the coin: the law, and the bathroom scale. Their need to partner in order to survive the guns outside is the movie's moral conflict, and both actors chew on Precinct 13's peeling walls and scuffed floors to drive the point home every chance they get. Obvious filmmaking fakery abounds in everything from the irksome snowstorm, frequent gunshots to the head, and a shadowy forest that conveniently presents itself in an industrial section of Detroit for the climactic showdown. No matter, this Assault is for non-thinkers who want blood and gunpowder, with no messy slowdowns for logic, please.--Ted Fry Review: A cops and robbers version of '300' - I have the original 'Assault on Precinct 13' (1976) film on DVD and this 2005 remake. There is often a temptation to compare remakes with originals and decide which is the better of the two, but I really struggle to do that with AOP13, as they're two very different films, notwithstanding the fact they're based on the same premise of a police station coming under attack. In the 1976 version which is a much more brooding and sinister film, the criminal gang's motivation for attacking the police station, is to avenge the deaths of several gang members at the hands of the LAPD, and to reach someone they're hunting, who seeks refuge inside the station. Whereas the 2005 version revolves around corrupt police officers attacking the police station, to try and kill a cop killer (played by Laurence Fishburne) who is being held prisoner inside, as letting him live (and everyone else inside the station who are witnesses), would reveal their corruption. In both films the prisoners team up with the cops to try and survive the onslaught. Personally I love both versions of AOP13 and highly recommend watching them both. Between the two, I would say the 2005 version has some better action scenes, but they are both great films in their own right, and have compelling plots. Review: the price - very. good. film

A cops and robbers version of '300'

Good storyline
The original has the better music - and marginally the better acting. This remake is good if you didn't see the original. I the whole I like the storyline in both.

Gripping action movie
Having seen this on Sky television for the first time I thought it was a very gripping film. I knew straight away I had to add this to my film collection. I particularly like the extra twist in the story in how they manage to hold off the assualt on the precinct, as well as who those people are who attack it. I won't spoil the fun by revealing this but thought I would mention this as it adds to the film's high rating which I have given it. I think Ethan Hawke plays a very good lead role and is very believable as the main hero of the story, despite his young looks. The film keeps you guessing where the next attack will come from. All those fans of guns and modern weapons will enjoy those used in the film too. I particularly like the fact that the assault takes part during a blizzard too, which adds to the desperation of the attempts to break out from it. A must see film, particularly for those who enjoy films like Die Hard, Heat and Collateral. A highly recommended buy.

Action and excitement all the way
Lots of surprises - you don't know who to trust! A great ensemble cast, with a mix of A-list and new faces, and most given enough backstory and dialogue to play a real part in keeping you engaged and the tension high. The action cinematography is good too - not too frenetic, just enough to give a sense of disorientation and uncertainty in fight scenes. Very nicely done.
