Good value as it includes two extra queens.Feels good in the hand with a pleasing matt finish in the standard, trusted Staunton design.Why trusted?Beware fancy chess pieces whose Rooks cannot be inverted for the uncommon occasions you nay promote a second, or even third pawn to a Queen.Fancy or ornate pieces or chessmen can be visually distracting to use and the Staunton pattern provides a sort of strong visual contrast, which is why the near innumerable “themed” sets (Glass, Modernist, Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, The Simpsons, Sherlock Holmes, Napoleonic, WWII et al) so oft end up little used, becoming little more than ornamental curiosKing higher than expected. A pleasant surprise.The suppliers are to be congratulated with this good value set.They even include a copy of their London Chess Shop magazine.The set arrives extremely well packed, rolled in stout corrugated paper, the black and white pieces in two snaplock top sealed bags.A plain green cotton drawstring bag that accommodates all pieces if a little snugly is also included, though this could be replaced with a thicker velvet one if desired.The pieces have a pleasing feel in the hand almost as if they are ivory but though in reality probably hollow or at most lathe turned solid plastic.The pieces certainly do NOT feel low quality, bearing no obvious seams, burrs or flashing from moulds and have a matt, marginally rough, textured, paper surface feel, like the surface of an egg.Buy with confidence.

Nice heavy weighted chess pieces not super shiny, which I like, with extra queens for promotion. Supplied with drawstring bag...The 45 cm white vinyl board with 5 cm dark green squares is a nice size and suits the pieces perfectly. The only downside is that the board seems to mark easily and has a slight vinyl odour. Overall, when set up the board and pieces look great and are a joy to play on.Considering the price it's a nice set for the money. Will buy again...
