"The Other Zoey' is an above average rom-com that is similar in some ways to the much better known 1990s film "While You Were Sleeping." Both movies have predictable plots but have leads who turn in solid performances and have genuine chemistry together.The heroine of "the Other Zoey" is not surprisingly the aforementioned girl. She's a computer science major at a fictional college. She's very bright and quite pretty but doesn't believe in romantic love. Instead she believes compatibility is the key to good relationships.One day, Zoey has a meet cute with Zach, her college's soccer star, when he accidentally hits her in the head with a soccer ball that he kicked. He's apologetic but Zoey seems to file him under the category of "dumb jock." She's much more taken with a mysterious stranger who asks a question at a lecture she's at which indicates he shares her attitude toward romantic love. However, this mystery man vanishes before she can introduce herself.The next day, Zoey is at her job at at the campus bookstore when in walks Zach looking for a book about a video game. They engage in some sarcastic banter, and he orders a book but leaves his credit card behind when he exits. She chases after him as he bikes away calling his name. Distracted, he crashes into a car and hits his head on the street. When Zach comes to, he's got a concussion and "movie amnesia" where he doesn't remember the last few weeks very well. But Zach does remember he just started dating a girl named Zoey (a different one than our heroine) and hears our Zoey say her name, Zach thinks that she's his girlfriend.Zoey doesn't correct him and accompanies him to the hospital where she meets his parents. They make the same mistake Zach did, assuming she's his girlfriend and they invite her to have dinner with them. At their house, Zoey sees the stranger she admired at the lecture and discovers he's Miles, Zac's cousin, visiting from graduate school at MIT.Zoey discovers that apart from being handsome, Miles is on her wavelength about a lot of things. And it doesn't take much for her to be persuaded to accompany him and Zack's family on a weekend ski trip. She sees no harm in pretending to be Zach's girlfriend in order to get close to Miles.At first, this plan seems to be working well for Zoey. She and Miles have a nice time snowboarding together while Zach stays in the lodge because of his concussion. Things culminate between Zoey and Miles that evening when they have a romantic moment in a hot tub.But the next day, Zoey learns that Miles just saw her as a hook up prospect...not a girlfriend, something he already has. Crushed by this, she decides to stay back at the lodge with Zach while the rest of his family goes skiing.Zoey and Zach spend the day together playing games and goofing around, and Zoey learns to her surprise that Zac is actually very smart and also very nice. They have a snowball fight, and at the end of it, he kisses her. She later calls a friend and tells her that the kiss "felt right."You can kind of surmise where the rest of the movie goes. Zoey's secret gets revealed, and she thinks she's lost out on Zach forever. I don't think I'm spoiling anything by saying she turns out to be wrong on that, and the girl who didn't believe in romantic love realizes that chemistry and just simply liking someone is more important than compatibility. Zoey's happy ending may be predictable but it's no less satisfying."The Other Zoey" is not a perfect film. Its best part is the sequence of scenes where she spends time with Zach and learns there's a lot more to him than meets the eye. But that gets cut short and the last third of the movie, they are mostly apart before the big scene at the end.But overall, "The Other Zoey" is well-worth seeing.
