Epic piece of equipment [but don't use the bag]
Took it on my first solo tour, a little 400 mile venture, and it exceeded expectations. I had a nasty wreck into a 4 foot ditch at speed, and the Maya took the impact without so much as a dent. For perspective, the wreck was so bad that my rear bike wheel was bent into a banana shape. Here's a quick summary. Pros: pulls quietly and efficiently the welds are sturdy the kickstand is AWESOME detachable hub is AWESOME -- left my gear at the campsite and rode around town without the drag solid steel can be repaired easily Cons: provided bag is too big -- will pop horizontal side bars if filled with gear the instructions are a nightmare -- even my local bike shop was perplexed provided trailer tire is kinda cheapo, but it survived the tour OVERALL: If properly outfitted by the user, this trailer is better than the competition in price, long term durability, and convenience. Highly recommend. Good luck figuring out how to set it up for the first time.

Great little trailer for the price!
I am planning a cross country bicycle ride from Bangor, ME to Bangor, WA. So, I will update my review after it has been on the road for 3,500 miles. After spending nearly 2 days looking at different bike trailers, one-wheel, two-wheel, different ways they attach, weight, agility, etc. AND watching youtube videos of each one. I decided to go with the Maya Bicycle trailer for a few reasons. One of the big reasons I picked Maya is the price of course. I have used 2 other expensive bike trailers, and found the Maya to be just as superior (if not more so) than some of it's competitors, and for half the price! The Maya is also, slightly more light weight than the other trailers, which probably shouldn't matter if your loading up with groceries or bikepacking. I think the features of the trailer will be really useful on my long journey, I already don't know how i would be managing the awkward disconnecting of the trailer with the kickstand! The kickstand on the trailer holds everything upright, even your bike! SO, you aren't always needing to find someplace to lean everything up against, or having to lay your bike down. Which also makes for VERY easy quick release. Then, when you have been riding all day and are to tired to carry your gear, flip the arms around and use the 'wheel barrow' feature to wheel your gear over to camp. The only other big thing I noticed while using the Maya, is the turning ability. The other expensive trailers use a 'V' type arm to connect the bike to the trailer, which I think limits it's ability to turn. You would notice, turning, the arm will stop against the front of the trailer, and you have to take wider turns. The Maya trailer has a single arm, not a 'V' shape that connects the bike, so it seems to give it slightly more clearance over the frame of the trailer, and helps it turn better. Just don't overload the trailer. I threw 50 pounds of lifting weights on the first ride, and it rode like a ghost! But I could feel it in some of the turns. All in all, i am a pretty picky person when it comes to my gear, and I think you WILL be happy with this trailer around town for sure! I will let you know how cross country goes! I Leave August 2015.

Works well but some quality issues
I purchased this bike trailer in May 2019 (over 3 years ago) and have used it on three 3-day bike camping trips. Following the advice of others, I purchased the better quality quick release https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BQOS3YO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and a better quality tire https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FTD9SPK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 This of course increased the cost, which is still pretty reasonable. I attach it to my 2016 Specialized Crosstrail Sport Disc hybrid bike (700cm wheels)... i leave the quick release replacement installed all the time, which works just fine (make sure wing nuts are tight). I measure the total weight of all the components at 15 pounds. Overall I like the design, it generally follows effortlessly behind the bike, it's low center of gravity helping keep things stable. The bag holds my sleeping bag, tent, air mattress, foodbag and some clothes... i still need some small panniers for other stuff such as water. Some negatives: The design and manufacture of the bag caused a weird badly sewed end of the zipper (basically a design problem of the bag) which I worked around with some loose stitches. The skinny side rails cracked off on one end after my last trip (on both sides)... not a show stopper, but may eventually give problems (work around is to have enough bungies holding things together)... perhaps a welding shop could come up with a proper fix.

The Maya Cycle trailer is an excellent product and I am quite happy with it. I had purchased the Maya Cycle trailer this year for bicycle camping trips. So far have put ridden about 400 km on road surfaces. Before purchasing I had read previous reviews and examined the product to verify or counter others concerns. Fabrication: I found the welds of the metal frame to be continuous and of good quality without spatter, lack of fusion, or burn through. The wheel is a standard small cycle wheel and adequate for the function. Others had commented on whether the front arm pivot bushing would hold up under use, however, EVERY bicycle component requires routine cleaning and lubrication. The trailer is no different. The carry bag is made of appropriately heavy material and is adequately sized for camping trips. The stitching appears without faults. Assembly: Assembly of the trailer was straight forward without any complications. However, installing the spindle that came with the trailer was challenging. I attribute this to the derailer configuration of my Cannondale CX. Attaching and disconnecting the trailer was cumbersome. I decided to purchase the upgraded spindle directly from the manufacturer. The upgraded spindle made a world of difference, and I whole heartedly recommend purchasing the upgraded spindle. Function: The trailer tracks perfectly behind the bicycle with no wobble or sway. I was originally concerned that my speed would be compromised however I have recorded no change in performance. Head winds contribute far more to reduced speed and increased effort than the trailer. If the carry bag is only moderately filled, it can rub against the wheel. A piece of cardboard attached with zip ties solves that problem. Customer Service: This is the best thing about Maya Cycle. On a Sunday afternoon, I purchase the upgraded spindle online. Five minutes after the purchase, I received a phone call from Mike, the company owner and designer, asking me about my experience with the trailer. We had a great conversation. When was the last time that the designer of a product that you bought called you immediately after purchase to discuss it with you. The Maya Cycle trailer provides excellent value and fun.

Hi Mike Thanks for shipping out the trailer Monday, got it Thursday at noon and set it up that afternoon. The instructions were clear and easy to follow and it fit on my bike no problem, even with having an electric and gas motor back there. Took it out Friday as the temperature was a balmy +1 C. Rode into town with a 5 gallon water jug to fill at the local store, and with it empty I didn’t even feel it there. On the way back I had the jug sitting upright and a case of drinks, as well as two other bags, so 50+ pounds and sloshing water. Once I got going it followed along with no complaints, I could feel the jug (it was sitting upright) but the trailer tracked smoothly while riding back on the highway travelling just at the edge of the road perfectly in line with my bike wheels. This trailer has now allowed me to do things I could only do with the car before and I am looking forward to a lot of use with it in the years to come. I’ve enclosed a picture of my setup, was so eager to try it out, I took the picture and realized after I had forgot to put on the flag!

I took this trailer fully loaded on a abandoned rail grade cycling tour that included some very rough terrain. Sadly at approximately 220 kilometers the section of tubing that attaches to the draw-bar, detached from the trailer frame resulting in a very no-go situation. It appears to me that the weld was defective and/or the material used in construction was defective. The design is very good! This trailer would be great for an urban cyclist and I still highly recommend it for its ease of use and its pleasing appearance. The tote bag is also very good quality and kept my gear clean and dry. Keep it on the pavement and it will likely last forever!

I just purchased my second Maya Cycle trailer, and I couldn’t be happier with my decision! My first Maya trailer, which I bought back in 2010, has been an absolute workhorse over the years. The durable design and reliable performance have made it a must-have for my cycling adventures. One of my favourite features is the ingenious kickstand design. It works flawlessly without needing any springs, making it both simple and effective. Even after all these years, my original trailer still works great and is as sturdy as ever. I decided to purchase a second one as a Christmas gift for a fellow cyclist. I know she's going to love it just as much as I do! Thank you, Maya Cycle team! If you’re considering buying a bike trailer that’s durable, practical, and thoughtfully designed, the Maya Cycle trailer is absolutely worth it!

My first outing was interesting. I didn't realize what the lynch pin was for. Now I do! Some of my friends have the Yak Bob and they are impressed with the Maya's pop down stand - actually they are quite jealous. I love it. I had purchased a used Bob and sold it as soon as I tried the Maya. When I'm touring, and at my camp site, I usually leave the trailer fork on and bungie it up to my rear rack. One of my rubbermaid storage boxes fits perfectly and is great for grocery shopping. So far, so good.
