This is what I call an ice cream container.
Bummer. Just bought one of those ice cream makers that have the cooling compressor built in: Whynter ICM-200LS Stainless Steel Ice Cream Maker, 2.1-Quart, Silver After making a few batches, we realized we 0needed a better storage alternative than regular Tupperware or my wife's salad storage container. So, while we were still within the 30 day return window on the ice cream machine, we decided to get a couple of these storage containers (different colors to differentiate flavors). These things are really great. We've made a number of recipes that made exactly 1.5 quarts of ice cream. Fit in these containers perfectly. So, the test was getting ice cream back out of the container. Just left them sit on the counter without the lid for about 10 minutes. Perfect. The rubber or whatever bottoms keep the container from sliding at all. Too, the narrowness of the container allows a perfect scoop from one end to the other. So, what part of my review is a bummer? Well, since the ice cream machine looks as if it will be a keeper (barring it breaking down over the next two weeks), we are now short of enough containers. If I had enough confidence that the ice cream maker was going to be a keeper, I would have bought the four pack container offering. So, guess I'll be using two of these containers, some Tupperware, and a salad container. Anyone considering making a bunch of ice cream and wanting to have a variety of storage containers, go ahead and opt for the four-pack. You won't regret it. Update 5/24/18 I was so enamored with these containers that I went ahead and purchased the two additional colors I didn't get on my first purchase. I only make 1.5 quarts of ice cream in my machine to keep it from spewing over the top of my 2.1 quart bucket. So, this 1.5 quart container is perfect. Heck, most ice cream sold in stores today has downsized to 1.5 quarts anyway. Clean up is pretty easy as well. Prefer to hand wash as I can accomplish that in a couple of minutes as opposed to a 3 hour dishwasher cycle. I'm making so much ice cream, need to keep these containers working for me. Churn, churn, churn, eat, eat, eat. Rinse and repeat. Edit 3/25/21 Had one of my outer shells develop a long crack. No idea as to how it occurred. Freezer too cold, hot water while cleaning cold plastic, sitting on counter. Absolutely no idea. Just spotted the crack as it was sitting in the freezer. Noticed that Sumo has a 100% guaranteed lifetime warranty. Contacted them and sure enough they provided a replacement unit right away. I mean next day. Amazing. I really like this company and their products. We've been using these containers (5) for nearly three years now and they have performed flawlessly.

A Must Have when making your own ice cream
So you've taken the plunge and bought your own ice cream machine. Maybe you've purchased incredible ice cream making recipe books, such as Lebovitz' The Perfect Scoop (Note-- if you haven't yet, you should). Maybe you even splurged on a compressor-based ice cream unit, so you could make glorious, creamy perfection right at home, batch after batch. And you ask yourself, do I REALLY need these ice cream containers? I mean, wouldn't just any old tupperware do? My friends, ask yourself this. Suppose you were going to a swanky party. You bought a gorgeous dress, got your hair done, new shoes . . . and you forget the mascara. Is mascara REALLY that important? I mean, you have everything else. Well, ahem. All that equipment isn't going to do much good if you neglect the details. Splurge, spend the money, and finish up your ice cream experience by getting these ice cream tubs. Why they are amazing: 1. Each tub is actually 3 parts-- the inside part, where the actual ice cream goes (the blue part on mine), a lid that snaps nicely into place and keeps air from getting in and making the product stale, and an outer container that creates an "air pocket" to protect the ice cream from the freezer itself. This ensures that the fluctuating cooling and defrosting of the freezer will not affect the ice cream and make it icy. 2. The inside of the tubs, where you actually place the ice cream, is softly rounded on the edges. This means no more trying to squash your rounded ice cream scoop into the corners of ice cream containers. You get every last drop with this design. 3. I mentioned it briefly in #1 describing the design of the holders, but that air pocket surrounding the blue ice cream holder is really incredible. Don't you hate it when you open a box of ice cream, and it has that nasty, gummy layer of ice on top from freezer fluctuation? That's a thing of the past. The air layer protects the ice cream from the temperature fluctuations and the freezer taste that sometimes bought ice creams get. 4. Fits perfectly on the door of the freezer. The shape of this thing is kind of wonky, and I wondered at first, why is it shaped this way? But voila! The long, thin design helps it fit perfect along the door of your freezer, conveniently stackable. It's heavy duty and doesn't get squished when you put something else on top of it. 5. These pictures show when I first put the ice cream from my ice cream maker into the tub. Then an hour later. Then the next day (different flavor because I made 2 but you get the idea). Look what a difference it made in the final product to rest in this tub overnight. It kept my ice cream light, fluffy, and airy. In short, I made divine ice cream that is now safely resting in the freezer for whenever the craving hits. Do yourself a favor. If you're moseying into the foray of homemade ice cream, get these containers. They last forever and take your ice cream from "This is really good!" to, *sound of flatlining* Yes. It's that good. And when you are wearing the proverbial mascara to the ball, you'll be glad you didn't leave it off. ;)

Fits A Whole Batch From 4 Cups of Base
Except for the brand name on the lid, this Sumo 1.5 quart ice cream tub is identical to the Tovolo one I bought at the same time. I love them both -- and two is a good number to have on hand, especially if you like to have a couple of flavor choices in your refrigerator. Other than the brand, the other difference between the two is that Sumo claims it is dishwasher-safe while Tovolo says theirs is not; I find that strange since the materials, texture, and construction appear to be the same. The tub measures 11" long by 4" wide by 4.25" high and, while that won't fit into every freezer door or "jam-packed" freezer, it is an efficient use of container space. When I first received this tub, I was afraid that it was going to be too small for the contents of my Cuisinart ICE-100 compressor machine. Not so. It's perfect. Although it looks visually small, it really hold a full 1.5 quarts of ice cream made from about 4 cups of base. The container comes apart for easy cleaning and hand-washing; I haven't attempted to stick this in the dishwasher. The insulated layer between the outside and the inner container helps keep the ice cream from melting as quickly when out of the freezer, and that's important when the long shape potentially exposes the greater surface area to ambient temperatures. I do stick mine in the freezer a few hours before I churn to give me some extra time when transferring the newly frozen ice cream into its container. The lid doesn't snap in place, although it does stay on. I love that I can run my KitchenAid scoop across the surface to create a nice ball of ice cream. -- Debbie Lee Wesselmann

The seal is my only gripe
This is a nice little container for storing your homemade ice cream. It's made of two pieces of plastic that are insulated by an air gap between them. The two pieces can be pulled apart relatively easily (and in my case, accidentally). The advertised capacity is probably a bit shy of the 1.5 quarts, but I will admit that I haven't actually measured. I know my standard ice cream base is about 1 quart liquid and probably expands with air a little bit as it churns and it will fill this container right to the brim when it's done. It seems durable and is very easy to clean. My only complaint comes from the lid. It seals OK and that's it. It's not very tight, it doesn't give a solid "click" if it's in place. It just kinda goes on and sits there with very little indication that it's solidly in place. I would prefer a recessed O-ring seal all the way around the container for a really airtight seal. Otherwise it's great. I don't feel the need to replace it or complain about it in any other way. I keeps my ice cream frozen and does so quite well in all honesty. A better lid couldn't hurt, but it's perfectly serviceable as-is.

Really protects ice cream from freezer burn. Shape is ideal for the perfect scoop.
Do you really need a special container for ice cream? Yes ! Make it this 3 piece, perfectly shaped container. Using this has made a believer out of me. It really does protect ice cream from freezer burn, and the elongated narrow shape is ingenious—so easy to make the perfect scoop in one motion**. No more partial shards of ice cream dished from a “short” container that stops the scooping motion. Added bonus of the shape of this container is the space saving footprint, perfect for a packed-to-the-gills freezer. I chose this 3 piece container because it is EZ to clean. I saw another similarly shaped container on Amazon, but it could not be taken apart for cleaning. That was an important consideration for me bcuz our homemade ice cream is not cooked (no eggs), thus, its almost like a raw food, where hygiene and storage are very important. One last point...as with any frozen dessert, make sure to place a piece of parchment paper or plastic wrap on the top surface of the ice cream, then cover the container with the tight fitting lid. The sealed surface is an important step in preventing freezer burn. I am impressed with the quality and design of the SUMO products I own so far. They are made of top quality materials, they are expertly designed to make them practical, durable and EZ to use. The pieces I received were packaged with thought and care—nice enough to give as gifts. SUMO stands for quality. **I highly recommend the SUMO chisel point full metal handle that spans the entire length Ice Cream Scoop for an EZ glide to that perfect scoop. It’s quality you will recognize as soon as you see it IRL and when you put it in your hand. https://www.amazon.com/SUMO-Stainless-Steel-Cream-Scoop/dp/B00PTSTST2

Perfect for Home Made Ice Cream
Likes -> various colors are available which are helpful when storing several ice cream creations, insulated on sides and bottom which keep product in excellent condition when storing in a chest/upright freezer that does not use a defrost cycle and transporting containers to a neighbor's house, stays upright when placed on the counter, easy to scoop ice cream out of using a traditional ice scream scooper, top rack dishwasher safe, quality product, tight fitting inner and outer sections. I have six of these containers and I may order a couple more because I have been making a lot of ice cream this Summer (taking advantage of the fresh fruit as it ripens) and have been giving away my creations to my friends in these containers and they've been slow to return the containers. These containers also nicely stack in the freezer without taking up a lot of unused space. Dislike -> only one - it's very difficult to separate the outer and inner sections of the base container. While this is a good thing because it provides excellent insulation, I like to separate the sections after use for a thorough cleaning. I have found that I can best separate the sections by running hot water over the exterior shell for a minute, then running cold water in the inner shell for a couple seconds, I then try to loosen the sections at the ends. It's not easy but it seems to be the best way for me.

Really pleased with these clever containers (updated)
I love these!! Update is not due to any criticism, but because I discovered a couple of things that might benefit others regarding the lid staying in place. Mine are fine, At first I was not sure that these would work because I read a couple of comments saying that the lid did not seem to stay on evenly. But I ordered them anyway because they were so attractive. Hope these simple tips about the secureness of the lid help: One: Make sure you do not overload the container and that the edges are clean before you put the lid on. Two: The lid only goes on ONE way. I'm not speaking of upside down or right side up (smile) as that would be fairly obvious. It would seem you could put it on either side, (with the latch tab going either direction,) as the shape is perfectly oval… but that's simply not so. Make sure the lid latch tab is facing the side of the colored inner bin that has a small indent. I got the blue ones. I love the design of these and the insulating surrounding outer bin. It is much easier to remove the ice cream from the container for serving, due to the slim design and the stackable compact size that fits nicely in my ultra-small freezer. I did not bother to put anything like plastic or parchment paper (as some people recommended) and it did not matter. No ice crystals, even though we had it in the fridge for over a week. I would order more of these if I did not live in a small household, or as a classy gift with the matching scoop. I' would even be nice to put store-bought ice cream in this, and toss the original box that sometimes turns into a soaked cardboard mess. I ordered the matching ice cream scoop and it looks so nice! Please note, I do not represent this company, (smiles); just a very pleased customer.

Homemade Ice Cream's Best Friend
If you make your own ice cream, you need to buy these containers. I absolutely love these containers, and it makes storing them in the freezer easy. I used to used the ice cream containers from the ones I purchased at the store, and since they were all different shapes and sizes, my freezer was a mess. These containers are the right shape to not only give you that ice cream parlor scoop you need for your ice cream cone but allows you to store it neatly in an organized manner. They are also easy to store in your pantry. Yes, I like an organized pantry, freezer, etc. These containers stacked up when not in use make your pantry look nice and organized. In addition, these are great for transporting if you make ice cream to bring to family functions or just to give to others. Make no mistake, I always tell them to give me back my container or else they won't get any more ice cream. This is a great investment if you make your own ice cream or need to transport it to a family event. I no longer buy ice cream at the store just to keep the container or buy cheap plastic containers to store my ice cream. I would buy these again if I ever needed more or if somehow they were broken, which would take a person literally dropping it with all their might to break. Heck. That might not even do it. These things are very sturdy. Your ice cream would love these containers, so buy it.

Pretty good tubs for ice cream.
Work nicely for storing ice cream. Prefer tovolo ones though. Lids actually snap into place on them.

No ice crystals keeps ice cream perfectly on the freezer does not have cracking issues like Tovolo
Would recommend this product to anyone who makes a lot of their own ice cream. Watched a few YouTube videos which talk about how SUMO does not crack in the freezer unlike some of its better known competitors.
