The biggest purchase mistake I have ever made
Some time ago I was looking for a birthday present for a girl turning 11 and I came across those miniature DIY doll houses. Please do not make the same mistake. Inside a pretty box you will find everything needed to make a doll house, it's true but be prepared that when it says DIY it really means it. The walls and floor are made of a rigid material resembling wood with the windows shapes cut out and with some holes 4mm diameter. Your gob is to glue a wall paper on them and glue them together. The wallpaper comes as a sheet of paper and you will need precisely cut out the holes for windows and these 4mm holes too. Good luck with doing it without specialized tools. You will even have to make a groove in the walls to conceal wires for the lamps. The walls are designed to be glued one to another which is a big problem because of their thickness app 3mm. No instructions on how to do it so you will probably end up using a duck tape for the outside, but this solution won't be pretty for the front walls and the roof which are made from a transparent acrylic or something similar. The decorative elements are equally difficult to make as nothing comes pre-cut to the size so in reality you are getting a bunch of sheet of paper and scraps of fabric that matches in colour and pattern items on the picture and you are asked to replicate what is on the pictureIn other words: Instead of buying this kit go any crafts shop, buy some colorful paper and fabric, pair of scissors, PVA glue and few other bits and bobs. That way replicating the doll house will be of the same level of difficulty but the satisfaction much bigger.
