What is in them that makes them colder than ice?

Don’t buy this. Mine cracked after a month and I had the gelatinous sludge leak all over my lunch. It sucks!

How much water do you add? What if I don't have a measuring cup?

It comes with an instruction sheet that tells you exactly how to set them up. I seem to remember 28 ounces. Even comes with a cool little funnel. "Don't have a measuring cup",8oz. to a cup, take an empty water/soda bottle or can and do some math.

Are the 3 packs and 5 packs, the same size?

No the 3 packs last twice as long as the 5 pack

Does these ice packs waterproof?

If you have the cap on tight, they have been great.
