How to Draw Horses Paperback – January 1, 1993

Overall this is a decent book to get a brief overview of some basic-artistic techniques on drawing, shading, and the proper shaping of horses. It also provides a quick summary of the different types of mediums you can use to color your horse, and how these mediums would affect the look of your finished picture. However, it would definitely need to be supplemented with other drawing books if you would like to get into more detail, or if you need more extensive information.I do like that this book breaks down how to draw the horse in each of its potential movements or activity, such as its gaits, jumping, or with a rider. Plus, five types of breeds are reviewed. Also, for all those young girls, or women who still are girls at heart like me, I really like that this book offered a page on Unicorns and Pegasus. As another reviewer had mentioned, the cartoon horse section seemed a little "silly," but that is only because I don't draw cartoons. It would be helpful for anyone who does like animation. The biggest drawback is that this book does not offer a step-by-step instruction on how the underlying basic structure of the horse was drawn. There are books out there that will give you with this type of instruction that, in my opinion, are much more helpful to a beginning artist than just showing the end product of circles, lines, and triangles.This book is good, but I wouldn't expect to see any full elaboration or extreme detail on any one topic. It's worth a look, and to have a part of any young or beginning artist's collection who loves horses.

This is the best How to Draw Horses book ever. Colorful and FUN! I've had one for years, and found another one for a friend's granddaughter, and now they're both in love with it and making good progress. Drawing horses is the next best thing to riding them, so when ya can't ride, learn to draw the magical beasties! It'll bring years of satisfaction to your horsie hearts.

Nice approach for young artists to learn about drawing horses. It uses the various approaches of simplified lines/shapes to create the basic shape and illustrates some examples of shading and coloring that help inspire more realistic techniques. The cartoon-style horses are a little silly, but might help very young artists feel less discouraged if their early attempts don't look just like the realistic ones in the book. Our children 5 and 7 yrs. tried this book and both got something out of it. It's a little thin - could have been a little longer but it has a surprizing amount of material in it for such a small book.

My pre-school twins got this book as their weekly take-home from the school library. This is now their favorite book. At 3 1/2, their ability to follow the instructions for drawing is limited, but they're trying. The big thing is that they love the illustrations.The only problem is that they loved the book so much that they were fighting over it. So, I had to order two books to bring peace to the household.

My daughter just loves horses and this was a nice surprise for her. Love how you get to draw a variety of horses. Easy. Wonderful experience from order to door!

Anyone with a hand and fingers will be able to draw a fine looking horse. The illustrated instruction is perfect for all drawers.

Since I ordered this for a young budding artist, I was willing to wait awhile until it shipped. What a disappointment - this book is not at all what I expected - I imagine I should have been warned by the price. There is almost no instruction about drawing horses - the pictures are pretty but they will not help in actually learning to draw horses. One star is almost overly generous for a "learning" book.

Came on time and the little girl liked it.

I was a little disappointed when this product arrived as it was a bit smaller then I expected, although this is my own fault for not reading the product details fully. And what do you want for £3.30 anyway!! Regardless of size this is a good introduction to drawing horses. It covers the basics and is a good starting point. If you want something more in depth and detailed this may not be the book for you. Perfect for beginners.

I bought this for a Christmas present for a close friend's daughter who is ten, along with a horse colouring book and the horses and ponies top trumps (both also available from amazon). I think it makes a good gift and as she is mad on horses am sure it will go down well.

Thankyou for this product, it is for our 8 year old grandaughter, for her 9th birthday at the end of the month, she loves horses and wants to be able to draw them and we hope this book will help her!!The price was right.thankyou again
