Pretenders [DVD]

In reply to Dogen I worked on the series as the Dubbing Editor for seven of the 13 episodes. Seven were edited in HTV Cardiff (my base) and six in HTV Bristol. It was shot and transmitted on16mm film and should be in a film vault somewhere.DSC

Occasionally I delve into childhood tv and more often than not I am disappointed as they don’t live up to memories. However this one has stood the test of time with its wonderful evocation of the era, great characters and actors and plenty of action to keep the interest going for over 6 hours of viewing. An impressive staging of battle scenes that stand comparison with Sharpe (almost) and doesn’t flinch from the realities of the time such as a hanging and a few brutal dispatches. Wonderful stuff from a great old ITV region.

Great to see it again after all these years.....shot on location in the west country . Glad I persisted and couldn't believe it when it finally arrived !

Seeing this classic children's TV series again, brought back fond memories... Fantastic buy and quick service!

Unusually large budget for a children's show, quite good for its time. Print quality on the DVD isn't that great though with a lot of damage to several episodes.

UPDATE.....this has now been finaly released ...you can get it from network direct...i pre- ordered from Amazon 2016 and is still unavailable from them..but be warned if you have done the sameAmazon's system won't let you cancel the order with them ..I've been trying for weeks...it keeps saying there is an error and they are working to fix the problem asap!!!!!!!I Rememberr this being on T.v in the 1970's and repeated on occasion up till the mid eighties...I would like to see it again to see if stands the test of time...but judging by the length of time it's taking to get it released(I pre-ordrered it in May 2016) there has to be a doubt if it will ever happen at all now.
