Transformers Studio Series 05 Voyager Class Movie 2 Optimus Prime (Amazon Exclusive)

I've been a Transformers fan since before there were movies. I've enjoyed all the movies, as ridiculous as they can be, it's all in fun. I've wanted to get a good, affordable Optimus for awhile now. I've got quite a decent amount of the Takaro Tomy Masterpiece line of Transformers from the original cartoon, but nothing from the films since the original Hasbro release for the first film in 2008. This figure comes with two swords that can be stored on his back vie pegs, he can hold them well in his hands, and they also store onto the trailer hitch in truck mode. I actually didn't transform this, it's like 30 plus steps and I didn't feel like futzing with it now. I really wanted this for robot mode anyways. I like the display this figure comes with, but because Amazon shipped this in a bag instead of a box, it arrived crushed, The figure is ok so I didn't send it back, but it does make for a nice display option if you have the room for it. This figure is a steal for $30, I grabbed everything from this first wave of the Studio Series, Grimlock, Blackout, Ratchet, Bumblebee, Starscream, stinger and crowbar. They're all great and priced well. There is also a 10th Anniversary line that is producing figures from the Michael Bay films. If you're a fan of the Transformers films or even fans of Transformers action figures, I think you'll be pleased with what you get here for the price. My only gripe is how many steps the transformation is, I'm used to the old days with just a few steps, this is a bit much. Regardless, this figure is fantastic and comes FULLY APPROVED.

My son broke his Optimus only about a week into him having it. While he understands that he needs to be careful and gentle with the moving parts of the transformers there are still extremely weak points on the toy. Its kind of an issue for me as the toy is designed to be played with by kids however the moving parts hinge on the smallest and thinnest pieces. One wrong move and SNAP! The directions "help" but are unbelievably hard to read due to the color coding they use to show what piece needs to be moved where/how. We ended up having to YouTube others showing the steps for clarity. We own approximately 30-40 transformers and while a few have broken some are built much better than this one. He loves the detail in them and always demands we buy him Studio Series only, because of this detail. I personally feel some of these "weak points" could have had just a 1/4-1/2MM thicker part and would provide just a bit more backbone. Whats the harm in a figure being a 1/2 inch taller or wider to accommodate a tougher toy? Overall though its a great looking transformer and he loves it. Thankfully Amazon did an amazing thing and allowed a replacement for us.

If you had any doubts about picking this one up, rest assured, this figure is AMAZING in hand. This guy looks incredible out of packaging (I had previously only looked at him in package at brick and mortar). The space between the chest does not look bad at all in person compared to video reviews and online photos. The backpack kibble really does not affect the overall profile, nor is it noticeable. But if you just fold it slightly its hardly noticeable at all as suggested by some online reviewers. It has incredible articulation and pose ability, and the darker colors look pretty sweet in person, and the plastic doesn't feel hollow anywhere at all. It's got some heft, and you get an incredible amount of detail and paint. Solid tight joints as well. I am absolutely loving having this guy on my shelf.

The first one we received was missing a knee shield and set screw in the foot. However, the quality, performance and appearance was really nice. So we took a chance in returning the first one and ordered another one from this vendor. We received the 2nd one and all good! Definitely worth the purchase. BTW, it's a good challenge converting him to the truck.
