Lacking on its own
Japanese Verbs & Esssentials of Grammar teaches and refreshes japanese grammar which it does well. The teaching in the book is good and I've learn't new things thanks to it. The problem is that it does very little to show off or use of the language's three alphabets. All example sentences and words taught are in romaji, The other writting systems only appear in a few pages at the end of the book, rapidly explained with little to none taught at the end.The book boasts about a free audio download on the front cover. Inside the book it tells me to go download it from their website. Two MP3 files.I guess I shouldn't be suprised by how lacking it is in everything but the usage of verbs. The book wasn't intended to be used singehandedly. Buy them all, or buy none.

A must have book for anyone learning Japanese.
This is definitely the best book for learning the mechanics of Japanese verbs and grammar. It takes you through the entire spectrum of Japanese grammar and verbiage in a very methodical and clear way. One warning though, this is not a beginners book and you`ll need a basic grasp of hiragana, katakana and basic Japanese grammar first. If you:re just starting out, try visiting [...] to get you started.

A handy Japanese reference
Japanese Verbs & Essentials of Grammar serves more as a revision and reference book than an introduction to learning JapaneseI say this because the chapters are a little disjointed. This isn't a book that will hold your hand through steps A-B-C etc, but instead offers a overview of multiple topics to help broaden a students' learnt topics and understanding of each.I would recommend this book for novices but not students entirely new to Japanese.

Lots of great examples
A concise, understandable text with many examples. I haven't come across a question yet that this book could not answer.
