Ben White is to be treasured as much as any NASCAR memory from the 1980s and '90s when the sport took off. He was right there in the middle of it, covering the sport in a trusted, professional manner. This latest work continues to meet the high standard he set for folks -- including himself. A treasure. Him and the book.

This being a coffee table book, there are three qualities that make it a good one. The looks, the quality, and the content. Long story short, this hits on all three, especially if one of your favorite drivers is part of Hendrick Motorsports (even if that's Jeff Gordon). The looks. The first thing that stands out is the cover. There's not paper jacket, just the hardcover, but it looks amazing. The car with the different paint livery sections is glossy while most of the rest of the cover is a matte black. It looks amazing. The pages of the book also look great. They're full of great pictures (it's NASCAR, there's a ton of amazing pictures) as they should be. The text and photos are crisp and clear, it's great to look at once you open the cover. Next is the quality. A coffee table book shouldn't feel like a cheap magazine. It should have really nice thick pages, with the right amount of gloss to them. They have to look good, but also be easy to read. Too glossy and it's nothing but reflections, and the opposite looks cheap. This one hits the mark on that. The pages are nice and thick with the right amount of gloss to make the pictures pop without being hard to read. The cover also has to be nice. No super flimsy hardcover, it has to feel expensive. This one hits that mark too. Last, but not least, it can't just look good, but has to actually be interesting to read. It has to be interesting if you just skim over the info, but also if you actually read the book (which in this case you should, it's great). This one has a nice balance of that. I'm not a die hard Jeff Gordon fan, so I can't say that the book is 100% accurate, but so far I haven't found any facts that are wrong or I take issue with. Overall though, it's a great coffee table book, and just a great book for a NASCAR or racing fan. It's full of facts, and looks amazing.

I know quiet a few people who are car nuts and race nuts, they really enjoyed this book when they came over. Got this to keep a nice wide collection of items that people can look at when they come over. I grew up in a family of muscle cars and had a few of my own at a time. Kept a few of them still to this day. This is a good read and a little history on NASCAR. Remembering some of these moments when I saw them on TV growing up, along with my parents and other family and friends brought back some good memories, and some sad ones. This is overall a good book, and the car nuts would agree.

Aus Anlass des 40jährigen Jubiläums des von Rick Hendrick gegründeten und bis heute geleiteten Unternehmens ist dieses englischsprachige Buch erschienen. Auf 200 Seiten ist der Band in 40 überwiegend chronologisch geordnete Kapitel gegliedert. Der Autor Ben White dokumentiert nicht nur den sportlichen Aufstieg von HMS mit den zahlreichen bekannten Fahrern wie zum Beispiel Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Darrell Waltrip, Geoff Bodine, Tim Richmond, Kyle Larson und Chase Elliott, sondern geht auch auf die Hintergründe in der Historie von HMS ein. Diese Beschreibungen reichen bis zum Vater von Rick Hendrick, Papa Joe, zurück , würdigen die Familie Hendrick mit der Ehefrau des Firmen-Patriarchen und den bei einem Flugzeugabsturz verstorbenen Familienmitgliedern Ricky und John Hendrick. Ricky war als Sohn von Rick Hendrick ein überaus vielversprechender Nachwuchsrennfahrer, John führte das Unternehmen als Bruder Ricks während dessen Leukämie-Erkrankung. Natürlich nimmt die Biografie Jeff Gordons, der als Starpilot das Gesicht von NASCAR nachhaltig verändert hat und den Rick Hendrick als seinen Nachfolger in der Führung des Unternehmens ausgewählt hat, einen angemessenen Raum ein. Ein eigenes Kapitel ist dem Firmensitz in unmittelbarer Nähe des Charlotte Motor Speedways in North Carolina gewidmet. Das Vorwort stammt von Jeff Gordon, ein Nachwort von Rick Hendrick selbst. Eine Aufstellung aller siegreichen Fahrer von HMS sowie eine Siegesstatistik bis Ende 2023 beschließen das bestens verarbeitete und in gutem Layout gestaltete Buch. Die Illustration ist mit rund 250 teils großformatigen Fotos ausgezeichnet. Die Abbildungen überzeugen durch die abwechslungsreiche und gute Auswahl und eine hervorragende Wiedergabequalität. "Hendrick Motorsports 40 Years“ gehört in jede ordentlich sortierte Sammlung von NASCAR-Literatur.

Great book, beautiful photo's and stories! A must have for a Hendrick Motorsports or NASCAR fan. Unfortunately mine was a bit damaged.
