So this is pretty disappointing. I ordered this just so we could casually play with it in our yard and at the beach. The first one I received didn’t work. I tried everything to get it to work. So did my neighbor and my husband. It did nothing more than flash a light when it was turned on on the handle and then have the Santa with snow falling screen. It didn’t matter how slowly I went over metal. It didn’t matter how close or far I was from it. I tried it upside down. I tried it parallel as suggested. Nothing got it to beep. I tried several different kinds of metal. Nothing.I returned the first one.The second one was no better and was a pain to put together for some reason on top of it. This metal detector is worthless.

Would beep randomly, and only would work things were directly infront of it(under clothes or in sand it didn't work)

I tested this out by throwing a few items on the ground that are metal, and even at surface level, it struggled to pick up a ring, and a keychain until the device was basically touching it. But then, you can be 3 feet from a stove and it pick it up, so, a little confused. If it will not register a ring unless they are basically touching, I doubt it would work if something small were buried in sand at all. Hence, why I say seems more novelty than useful. The display screen is novelty too, and shows a christmas theme constantly, which is a bit odd, being that if it's used in summer, snowflakes and Santa seem to be a bit much. In order to carry this in the supplied bag, you have to disassemble for it to fit. Not a huge deal, as its super simple, but 3 or 4 inches larger could have prevented this. It is lightweight, and I'm sure the kids will love playing with this, but I would not expect for them to actually find any "treasure" if it's not something larger. It is basically just a fun toy that may or may not let them find something metal beneath the sand or ground. It would be fun as a toy to use in a large sandbox for a treasure hunt to occupy them while outside. Overall, it's just what I would say is OK, but not as good at locating metal as I had hoped it would be. Will be fun to take fishing or to the beach.

I was expecting to play with this thing for a couple of minutes and decide this was junk and never use it again. My son just turned 9 years old and he's very interested in metal detecting. I saw this and ordered it. When it arrived I showed it to him and he wanted to go outside and try it immediately, even though it was dark outside. We went outside and he waves it back and forth for a few seconds and gets a beep. He's diggiwith the shovel and we're looking for what it is. We can't find anything metal. We wave it back over the area and it keeps beeping. We're still looking but find nothing. I'm getting anxious that this thing doesn't work correctly. I get an idea and go to grab our magnet fishing magnet and I stick it over that spot and sure enough, a fairly large nail sticks to the magnet. I have no idea how we missed it. I'm sure it being dark had nothing to do with it. We went in to find more stuff. This thing is way. More accurate than I thought it would be. It only beeps and doesn't distinguish between types of metal, unless it beeps differently or something but I haven't read the directions.It comes with a plastic shovel and a plastic rake. It also comes with a backpack to store it in. The metal detector does have to be broken down to fit in the backpack but that entails only unscrewing a nut and flipping a lever. I might have said it was over priced being a kids "toy" but after seeing the accuracy, I have no issue with the price. I'm 109% satisfied.

ordered to keep the youngest of your household busy on beach, she loves it. the sympols take some translation but there arent many of them so it takes very little time to figure out operation. she says she's going to use it at the easter egg hunt to find all the eggs with money

The media could not be loaded. This has a really cute dog design, very kid friendly. We got this as a gift for my son who has just started showing interest in metal detecting. It does work, but it can be hard to keep a steady detection at times. When you find something it beeps and the handle also lights up, which is also fun for the kids. The screen has Santa and snowflakes and drops a present when something is detected, which is kinda random and has nothing to do with the dog design, but not a big deal. It would have been cute if maybe it showed a puppy and it starts digging and finds a bone when something is detected, at least to stick with a theme. Even though it does work and my son has been having fun with it, it's basically just a toy metal detector. For beginners and those just starting out this is a great introduction, but for older kids or those who have more experience I would go a different route.

I ordered this because I have always wanted a metal detector, I always thought that this would be a great outdoor hobby and it really is. This metal detector is for kids, and it is shaped like a corgi, but it works really well. I have gone on quite a few expeditions with my 4 and 6 year old nephews, and even though I seed the ground with coins, so the boys stay interested and motivated, they really enjoy finding coins with the metal detector. The detector is also waterproof, so I cannot wait until warmer weather so we can search for stuff in the shallow rivers and streams near where we live. The detector comes with a backpack and non metallic digging tools. This is a really great product. My nephews and I have had a lot of fun searching for treasure with this metal detector.
