large, motley pieces and excellent quality
This is a good quality canned octopus, which I have purchased over a dozen cans of. Where Conservas de Cambados' (my favorite brand's) octopus is smaller and more tender, Matiz Gallego is larger, firmer, chewier, and leggier (or is it arm-ier?). I have had to slice each piece in half for recipes, as they would otherwise be too big a biteful for me (long, curled tentacles with large suction cups--image on the left is Matiz, compared to Conservas, on the right). The octopus itself has a very good flavor once it is drained (the oil it is packed in is supposed to be olive oil, and I hope it is, though the texture is thick and 'crude' enough to make me wonder--hence the 4 stars). I've had it with boiled and quartered potatoes (baby potatoes, if you can find them, or small red ones), sliced onions, a squeeze of lemon, some chopped parsley and a dash of paprika and himalayan salt. If you are adept at paella, you should add a can of this octopus. You don't have to be a pro to cook with canned octopus though--just add them to a nice wild rice or pasta dish, and enjoy.

Excellent Flavor and Texture
This product is from Spain harvested from Atlantic ocean waters. The flavor is delicate (not fishy) and cute tender. Excellent way to dress up an afternoon Mediterranean salad. Highly recommended.
