Its slightly sweet. Not hot at all. It is good for sea food like shrimp or octopus. The closest comparison is bulldog sauce only much more mild.

I have never found it to taste fishy at all.

Tasty

I only tasted takoyaki sauce once in Japan so I cannot comment on the authenticity of the flavour, but this is a nice accompaniment to any takoyaki or okonomyaki dish, in fact my family now buys more of this stuff than I do.
