I have used several meat thermometers in recent years, with varying success. But when I decided to learn how to make bread, I discovered I needed an accurate, quick & reliable thermometer for several steps. After checking multiple reviews, I found this one was the highest rated unit in most. Since getting it, I have used it several times when cooking meat on the grill, and throughout a couple of baking projects. It really is amazing! Truly instant read, spot on and very easy to use. I highly recommend the Javelin Pro Duo, and would absolutely buy another if this one ever wears out … which I don’t foresee happening for a very long time!

Comes up to temp MUCH faster than generic thermometers. As a left handed person I really appreciate that the display flips when I hold it upside down. Feels sturdier with nicer plastic than the $12 units. Washes off easily.

Did a lot of research on the best digital thermometer, that’s also not crazy expensive. This came up on every list. I agree with its high ratings. It’s very easy to use, and provides fast accurate temperature reading. It has a magnetic back which makes it easy to keep nearby, especially when grilling.

I don't know how accurate it is, but this thing is wonderful to use and virtually instant response so really good for getting a temp on something in the oven without having the door open more than a moment.

Nice temperature gauge. Easy to use and love the ability to fold. Displays in both vertical and horizontal position which is a great plus. Compared accuracy to other temperature gauges I have and it appears to be quite accurate. It’s magnetic and has a nice feel to it.

This is a lot more accurate than my old one. My grill cooking has improved!

For many years we've used a certain type of OXO digital thermometer that we liked, but it seemed to need regular replacing (got a little wet, just randomly died, button stopped working, etc). We decided we needed something a bit higher quality, and my wife ordered this one.Not thinking anything of it one day when I needed the thermometer, I opened the drawer to find this one. I was instantly impressed. The build quality is clearly superior, immediately feeling substantial and well built. It's easy to use, just open it up like a folding knife and it comes on. You immediately know it's accurate because it matches what I know to be the air temp in the house when opened. It changes instantly when placed in the food to be tested. I used it over the weekend to verify the existing temperature probe we have for meat in our smoker, and it was within 2 degrees of the probe temp every time I checked. I didn't even realize it's magnetic until it stuck to the side of our stove one day, which is another cool feature. The ability to fold the probe away is also nice to help prevent accidentally poking yourself or things in the drawer. I'm sure it also protects the probe long-term.We've only had it for a short time so I can't comment on long-term reliability, but so far I'm not concerned that it will last much longer than our OXO did. Seems very well built and accurate. Highly recommend!

I can't say how useful the regular LavaTools PT12 thermometer has been over the past 5-6 years while I've grown as a home cook. The Pro Duo version has improved on everything except for maybe the size-- the unit gets about 30-50% bigger, which may be tough for some folks, but I feel gave me more control and comfort inserting into tougher meats.It comes in a rainbow of handle colours, but kind of odd only some coloured handles have a blue/white backlight and most others have the orange/red backlight.Like the original, the magnet on it is very handy for slapping it on your appliance of choice or whatever metal racking you have hanging around.As someone who cooks a lot of chicken stove-top, both the original and this one have been very helpful. The original PT12 has only failed me once out of maybe 100 times, where I had a chicken breast read appropriately temp for 1 minute and turned out mildly pink in the middle. Probably fine for eating, just wasn't great to present after resting and serving-- Probably just a fluke where I over stabbed the reading.Overall: Fantastic unit, but you get the same accuracy from the LavaTools PT12 (about 40% less expensive normally), but the Pro Duo has a backlight, can flip the reading readable side up depending on how you probe it and is larger which may be easier to handle for some. Big fan of the magnet for easy storage and access, the colour variety does help if you're storing it on your fridge or appliance by magnet and the readings are very quick and seem accurate-- I've only had juicy chicken!If this review helped, please click the button below!
