Some / Any / New is the 2nd solo album from Xavier Boyer, lead singer of Tahiti 80, and the first to be released under his own name. His previous record was credited to the nom-de-pop Axe Riverboy. Some / Any / New is a nod to Todd Rundgren in more than just title. This album is gorgeous swoon-worthy pop hand-made by Xavier himself using a laptop, 8-track recording console, a few cherished instruments, that soaring evocative voice of his, plus a few overdubs by collaborator Stephane Laporte. Sessions for the record were fractured geographically and chronologically, following a complicated break-up and during the beginning of a new long-distance relationship. Despite all this tumult, Some / Any / New is coherent, light-infused, and optimistic; awash in classic melodies and sweet Odessey and Oracle-esque vocals. Joy awaits. Push play.
