I needed a USB to RS-232 Male serial cable for some programming at my job. My initial thoughts when unpacking the cable and seeing a CD to install drivers was, great another piece of software on my laptop that is already loaded with work software. Because I did not want to install another driver on my laptop, I decided to try the cable without installing the drivers and it worked without an issue. This is not to say there may be devices that communicate better with the proper drivers installed, but for my use, it was plug and play. I was using Windows 10 as the operating system. You will most likely need to install drivers to work on older operating systems. Overall the quality of the cable is exceptional and exceeded my expectations. Great cable for the price!

This is a well made cable but unfortunately I was unaware there are two common chipsets used for these cables. Prolific & FDTI. I am trying to get around buying a $120 cable from a specialty device company and their drivers are for the FDTI chipset. Going to try a FDTI chipset. The only other thing I would say is that windows 10 64 bit does not seem to play well with the prolific chipset. Still won't detract from this cable because I was not aware of the diferences and it seems that this one would work fine for folks that need a prolific chipset cable. ***Update*** The FTDI chipset worked like a champ on the proprietary device mentioned above and saved paying a %1000 markup.

The wbesite in the manual for drivers is wrong, but found it eventually. Otherwise works just fine.

Since September 2021, I have been searching for a RS-232 Serial Splitter Cable or PCIe Industrial DB9 RS232 Com port adapter card. This device is required to add extra COM ports for my students' Windows 10 Pro lab PCs (e.g., HP Elite Desk 800-G2) to administer Cisco 2960 switches simultaneously. My first search ended with a purchasing a total of 20, QVS brand, DB9/Serial Splitter Cables (SSC). The serial splitter cables stated compatible with Windows 10 Pro. However, after receiving and installing the SSC, one Cisco switch worked. While the second Cisco switch produce unrecognizable characters. My second choice, I purchased only 1, PCIe Industrial DB9 RS232 Com port adapter card. The Windows 10 Pro drivers provided were not compatible and the results were identical. Frustrated, but I refuse to give up. November 26, 2021, I located an USB to Serial Adapter, Benfei USB to RS-232/DB9 Serial cable, Prolific Chipset. “WOW!” After installing this cable and Windows 10 Pro Drivers on student’s PC, I can truly say, “Job Well Done!” Thank you BenFei engineers for providing the answer to my September endeavor to increase Com Ports on all lab PCs. I have purchased these - they came with the PL-2303 chip inside and work just fine on my Mac, both M1 and M2. Also on my PC (windows 10). However I purchased 1 recently and it is not recognized by my Mac (M2). It does work on my PC, but the mac won't recognize it. Downloading the newest drivers didn't change that. From the Macs System Information/USB listing... the old, working version of this cable shows a Product ID of 0x2303, vendor Prolific. This new, non-working cable, shows up as Product ID 23a3, vendor = Prolific. I'm guessing the product ID is not matching the driver for some reason. I've done some searching around the internet and haven't seen any references to this.... other than the general advice to get an FTDI chip cable and not use the 2303 cable. The product information does not mention this issue - everything just says compatible with Mac.

I love these adapters. I buy them for my software customers who need them. Locally they cost twice as much, cost more for shipping to send out of state than the adapter costs on amazon, and they arrive in 1 or 2 days instead of a week. PROS: 1. I can get them to my customers in 1 or 2 days. 2. I don't have to pay for shipping (prime) 3. I save $30 over buying an adapter locally and shipping it to my customer. My customer loaded the driver, plugged in the adapter, and it started working immediately. I will buy this item again and highly recommend it.

Works perfectly! Used it to connect to a Dicktator ECU. Great price and seems well constructed.
