My doctor prescribed a FOBT or FIT test and gave me a name of a well known on they supposedly recommend all the time. The problem? 500$. And they effectively do the same, they make you take a few stool samples and then run it through a reactive substance. I haven’t found anything as price effective and convenient as this. I do recommend you buy more than one: at least two or 3 so that you can do the test over a few days. This makes it similar to what the labs do as they want you to take samples from 2 or 3 stools. So if you get 2 and two out of 2 give you the same result over different stool samples then you have a high degree of certainty / low error margin. It’s worth the peace of mind. Here is the gross part: you’ll be pooping on a piece of waterproofed paper that you stick across the toilet lid so you can catch the sample. Your stool should not be in touch with the toilet water of urine hence the catch paper that they include. Once caught you have a tube with a sample pin that you stick in 5 different places in the stool sample and then reinsert in the tube which is liquid/water filled. You shake. You then open the other side of the tilibe which is a dropper and drip and drop onto a reactive tab that they include as well. Wait one minute. There is your positive or negative result. Very easy. Very nasty but hey if it can safe your life then why not. I can’t say anything negative about this test as it led me to believe that a colonoscopy is overkill for me despite the doctor saying people my age should have one. Not with a 2700$ copay I if there are no red flags I think. To each their own, but for now this gave me piece of mind. And for a great price.

It kind of looked like the box had been opened and then taped shut with scotch tape when it arrived, that's the main reason for the bad review. Took the test anyway as best I could and got an inconclusive result.

This seems to be an effective way to detect the baddies in the colon. It's inexpensive and easy to use and if it does what it says it does, a good way to detect hidden blood in the stool, which would prompt more tests and possibly more invasive interventions. It's a good pre-screen.

I found this to be very clear, concise and easy to use. I like that it’s made in America, too. I had taken a Pinnacle Biolabs at-home FIT test last year and was dissatisfied with the experience and found their device unreliable due to a positive and a negative side by side with each other, in addition to feeling cheaply made. This piece, in contrast, felt well-constructed. No replacement for a colonoscopy, as they say, but for less than a copay and if you’re in a lower risk demographic, this is a nice compromise. The risks of colonoscopies are seldom noted, but with a procedure complication death rate of 1/14,000, that would mean that if every single American got a colonoscopy, 25,000 people would die, which is frequent enough to be a remote possibility, so I’d like to avoid one unless I’m compelled to; a positive test here would have driven me to get one. One thing I did change here based on other reviews of weak collection paper was put that same paper over an empty steel cooking bowl, and squat down. Gross as it sounds, if the paper failed, the sample still would have been usable. It didn’t fail fortunately, so there was no mess, and I proceeded without issue.

Exact directions for use: use your imagination. Update: I've had to order a second one of these as I "messed up" and the first one didn't quite "work properly"- if you know what I mean- (I'll spare you the details). And while we're on the subject, is "occult" possibly a misprint? Or alternatively a typo? I think they meant "a cult", you know, like with Jim Jones and his followers who took off in spaceships after drinking the Kool-aid? I fail to see what that has to do with blood testing. Am I displaying good, sound logic here, would you say?

I found the Reeces Colo Test to be somewhat disappointing, as the results were inconclusive despite following all the instructions carefully. It was frustrating to not get a clear negative reading, which left me uncertain about the outcome. While the test seemed easy to use, I would have appreciated more reliable results for peace of mind. Even though the results were negative, I noticed a faint grey line appear shortly after I read the results.
