Great idea with a few limitations
It works great, but has some limitations to be aware of. 1. You should store the jerrycan sideways with the water spigot pointed down, so that you can get more water out with less pressure 2. You always need to keep a reserve amount of water to keep the filter submerged so it doesn't grow mold. The jerrycan says to leave "two inches" which is great in theory, but in practice you have to guess because there's no way to tell the water level. (This is another reason to keep it stored sideways.) 3. I really had to hunt around to find the replacement carbon filters, they weren't sold on Amazon last I checked. 4. Refilling the jerrycan requires removing the hand pump. The issue is that you have to carefully balance it on a flat surface so it doesn't get dirty or contaminated.

Great for camping
The LifeSaver Jerrycan 20,000 Liter Water Purification System in MilSpec Tan has been an invaluable addition to our camping and emergency preparedness gear. Its rugged design and large capacity make it perfect for extended trips in the wilderness, providing safe drinking water for days on end. The filtration system is incredibly effective, and it’s easy to use—just fill, pump, and you have clean water in minutes. I love that it can filter up to 20,000 liters, which gives me peace of mind knowing I’m prepared for any situation. The MilSpec Tan color is a nice touch, blending well with outdoor gear. Whether for camping or emergency readiness, this jerrycan is a must-have!

As advertised
For when all goes sideways, you won’t be left thirsty as you watch the world crumble all around you. I figured out how to use it without reading the manual so that’s a plus too. FYI you must keep it perpetually wet after first use or change filters.

Solid water can.
I bought this for camping. It is a nice replacement to my military can. Having something that can purify the water makes the trips easier. No Longer worried or having to carry a bunch of water jugs or bottles. Solid construction, easy to use and operate.

Needs Special Consideration as a Stored Emergency Item
The filter is the critical item of the product. Water filters should come in a separate sealed foil pouch. It prevents it from drying out. The jerry can arrived with the filter installed in it and ready for use. The filter only has a 3 year storage life before it dries out and rendered useless. If you are buying it for emergency supply, where the jerrycan will be in storage till it is needed. You must get a spare filter cartridge that comes in a sealed foil pouch. Many US vendors sell the water filter that are not in sealed foil pouch. Vendors figure the customer will use the jerrycan within reasonable timeframe, not store it as an emergency item. A filter in a sealed foil pouch is available but it must be ordered from Lifesaver in Britain. It is worth it because a filter sealed in a foil pouch has shelf life of 10 years. Something to consider for anyone who wants this item for emergency prepping.

Brilliant!
This eliminates the need to bring any other water storage as long as a source is available, saving a lot of space and weight. Performed flawlessly on our first outing with it remote beach camping in NorCal. Refilled it with creek water which tasted great thanks to the charcoal filter. Also excellent for emergency water storage. High quality, tough construction, good design. I expect many years of durability. One caveat, make sure the openings are tightly sealed when traveling, especially if it is pressurized, or it will dribble. Highly recommend.

I’ve been using the LifeSaver Jerrycan during campervan adventures, and it’s been a reliable partner for purifying both tap and river water—for me and my dog. Fast, simple setup Fill it from a tap or directly from a river, pump to build pressure, then dispense filtered water through the tap. The jet of water is steady and easy to control—crucial when you have a thirsty pup too. Built tough & portable It holds 18.5 L (that’s almost 5 gal), but still feels manageable for one person thanks to the solid yet light build (about 3.9 kg dry weight) . It’s rugged enough to live in a van for months. Water safety you can trust This thing filters up to 20,000 L, removing 99.99% of viruses, 99.9999% of bacteria, cysts and even microplastics . I’ve filled it with filtered tap water and murky river water alike, and the output is always clear and safe. Great taste—no chlorine aftertaste Comes with an activated carbon disk that handles chemicals and funky tastes for about 500 L . River water tastes surprisingly fresh—even my dog drinks without hesitation. What’s most impressive • Flow rate around 4 L/min—super handy when filling bottles or our travel bowls . • Filter shuts off automatically when it reaches capacity (FailSafe tech), so no guessing when it’s spent . • Safe to use in off-grid or emergency situations; no chemicals or electricity needed. A few things to note • Since it only filters on output, the stored water inside isn’t potable until you pump it out . • You do have to pump each time—handy for water, but if you’re filling up a bucket or shower it’s a mild workout. • It’s a bit tall, which might not fit in all holders—but in a campervan it’s been fine for me. ⸻ Bottom line: This LifeSaver Jerrycan has been a game-changer for me on the road. No more buying jugs of water or worrying about letting my dog lap questionable tap water. It’s built like a tank, filters almost anything, and tastes great. Pricey, yes—but worth it for peace of mind and hydration freedom. Highly recommended for fellow campervanners and pet owners!
