Eat The Elephant

A near Perfect album from A Perfect Circle the only thing I could ask for is ..... More More More More but that would be being picky!! this album is better then anything produced in the last ten years or more, there is not a wasteful track on this album each having been well crafted Talk Talk Eat the Elephant, The Doomed, Etc Etc,I must also say at this point that they are a Wonderful group to see Live as I had the pleasure of seeing them on the Thursday 14th June at the Brixton Academy (A Near Perfect Night ) and they are Back in December (I Can't wait for that) this Album you will listen to for Decades and Decades and you will keep going back to it!

I’ve been listening to Rock/metal for over 30 years now. Every now & again an album comes out that is head & shoulders above what’s around at the time. Think ‘Ride the lightning’ or ‘Reign in blood’ or ‘Rage against the machine’. There’s hasn’t been an album of this new perfect circle album quality for a long long time. Every song takes you to a place you don’t expect but they are so memorable you keep the tunes in your head well after you stop listening. The production is crystal clear. The reviewer who says the sound is terrible must have blocked ears. I’m listening on a Naim/Rega system & it sounds amazing. Easily album of the year possibly the 2000’s. Yes it’s that good.

I don't write a lot of Amazon reviews, but I felt I had to. I've loved this album since I first heard it - it's not metal, but it's at the harder end of progressive rock I would say. It's pointed and well crafted, an easy candidate for album of the year in my view.But if you've only got it in digital form and have the equipment - get the vinyl! It's so much richer. This is one of the best mastered plastic circles I have heard in a long time. It's deep and rich where it needs to be, subtle and soft when called for. Really excellent, and well worth the money.

Ok let's start with the positives....its good to have new APC material, they are an original band and the tracks here varied being musically diverse and interesting. It's definitely music and an album that will grow on you over repeated listens. Musically they have changed and matured which is both positive and negative. It's very much an even consistent album In terms of songs, lots of good songs rather than previous APC which had great songs mixed with other weak tracks.In terms of the negatives, they do miss the groove of Josh and Paz but the drums and bass are ok. My too biggest problems with the album are the overuse of piano and the under use (or quietness in the mix) of the guitars. The other big issue is the mix of the album as it seems to of been mixed by an amateur who loves to compress everything. For those who don't know what compression is it's a way of stopping peaks in sound. Guitarists can use compression pedals in a similar way so when they switch to more distortion for a solo it stops the volume jumping up and killing everyone's ears. The trouble is when used in a record mix it tends to makes everything sound lifeless and flat. In summary it's good to have new decent music from the band it's just a shame there's a focus on piano and not the guitar. Oh and who ever chose track1 to be the opening track needs shooting as it's the worst song on the album

In a world where streaming is the norm, with teenagers hooked to their iPhones and their lack of decent language skills Keenan delivers again.It saddens me when I thought 80's music was dire that another generation on young people consume new music like bubble gum. Driving an awful industry to produce more disposable rubbish.It is my wish that he spent less time creating wine and more working on Tool and A Perfect Circle.An excellent album in a world of dreadful mediocrity. The world needs more decent music like this.

Not one bad song, listening to the album in full each song builds on the last leading to musical ecstasy. Some songs are a little bit on the experimental side, Hourglass with its robotic voice and the final track Get The Lead Out. But these tracks really grow on you after a few listens.Love this album.

Perfect conditions of the CD

I have been buying vinyl for 40 odd years, everything from punk to reggae to rock and back again and this is right up there with the best.Great lyrics, great music composition an album that tells a full story with a beginning, middle and end which is rare these daysA great album

Ho preso Eat The Elephant in versione vinile e nel complesso mi è piaciuto. La stampa è buona, il suono è pulito e caldo, e il disco arriva ben confezionato. Non è il vinile più “potente” della mia collezione, ma rende comunque bene l’atmosfera più lenta e riflessiva dell’album. Per chi ama questo stile più introspettivo è una bella aggiunta, senza troppe pretese, ma piacevole da ascoltare.

Beautiful, Refreshing, Sad, Powerful, Challenging, New and Different, basically everything I was hoping it would be, but not what I expected.Definitely different from their other stuff, I would say it's actually a cross between E-motive and Ashes Divide, with lite splash of Pusifer. The album has an overall more mature feel in content, themes and sound. Maynards voice also sounds different this time around, either because he's trying to be different or because he's in his 50s now and can't help it. Either way colour me impressed, it feels good.But why sad? because omg every song is one sad state of affairs after another. It may sound uplifting or happy like in "So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish", it's not happy at all. And Maynard destroyed me in "Feathers". I'm not complaining, I'm just saying, I didn't expect real tears from my self, damn. Every song feels like a different kind of sadness, each from a different perspective.I'm pleased with what they gave. A perfect album for where I'm at in life currently and hits me right where it needs to.

Pese a lo que muchos digan, este álbum es muy muy bueno. Sólo hay que darle una oportunidad y, como pasa como siempre con MJK, hay que entender el significado y la intencionalidad del álbum en su conjunto.El sonido es diferente a lo que hemos esuchado anteriormente pero es necesario tener en cuenta que han pasado 14 años desde su último cd.Creo que las personas que esperaban escuchar "el mismo sonido" de APC no entienden qué que es lo que siempre han querido conseguir Maynard y Billy Howerdel con su proyecto en este grupo.Para mi, un 5 de 5.PD: El envío de Amazon ha dejado mucho que desear esta vez, el vinilo sin caja de cartón, con la etiqueta pegada al envoltorio de plástico transparante del álbum y este con varios pequeños golpes.

14 Jahre nach dem letzten Album kehren A Perfect Circle mit ihrem neuen Werk Eat The Elephant wieder zurück. Und wie schon die Singles ahnen ließen geht es diesmal in eine etwas andere Richtung als man das bisher gewohnt war. Eat The Elephant ist mit wenigen Ausnahmen ein ruhiges, melancholisches und klanglich fast schon zerbrechliches Album. In Kontrast zum Sound des Albums stehen die oftmals düsteren, apokalyptischen und teils wütenden Lyrics von Maynard James Keenan, der auf diesem Album größtenteils seine ruhige Seite zum Besten gibt. Dabei liefert er seine beste Performance seiner Karriere ab und wechselt gekonnt zwischen fragil, gefühlvoll und auch aggressiv (The Doomed ist ein gutes Beispiel dafür).Eat The Elephant klingt wie ein Soundtrack, der Soundtrack zum 21. Jahrhundert mit all seinen politischen und sozialen Seiten. Es ist ein Album das zum Nachdenken anregt und einen dazu treibt über eigene Verhaltensweisen und die Umgebung zu reflektieren (Disillusioned & TalkTalk). Hier wechseln sich klangliche Schönheit und kritische Lyrics gekonnt ab und resultieren in einem Werk, das Aufmerksamkeit bedarf. Wie so oft in der Karriere von Maynard James Keenan bekommt man kein Album, das auf schnellen Konsum ausgerichtet ist. Lyrics, Sounds, Rhythmen und Riffs warten darauf entdeckt zu werden, offenbaren sich oft erst nach dem zweiten, dritten, vierten Hören.Eat The Elephant reiht sich perfekt in A Perfect Circles bisherige Diskographie ein und setzt neue Maßstäbe in einer Zeit, in der Musik im Mainstream eher zur Beschallung genutzt wird, als als Kunstform.Dieses Album wird nicht jedem gefallen, aber wer bisher die Band mochte, Geduld mitbringt und bereit ist, sich mit Musik zu beschäftigen, findet hier eines der besten Alben der letzten Jahre.
