BRUTAL VIOLENCE
ONCE IN AWHILE A MOVIE COMES ALONG WITH VIOLENCE YOU CAN ENJOY LIKE CLINT EASTWOOD MOVIES (NOT ALL) AND THAN THERE ARE WESTERN VIOLENCE; THE GREATEST WAS "THE WILD BUNCH." THERE IS ANOTHER STYLE OF VIOLENCE: "GANGSTERS:" RAFT, CAGNEY, BOGART, ROBINSON, MUNI, AND OTHERS; ALL WATCHABLE WITHOUT A RATING OF "R". THIS MOVIE HAS A DIFFERENT VIOLENCE: IT'S CALLED "BRUTALITY." TAKE THE FIGHT SCENE IN THE GARAGE; THAT WAS SENSATIONAL AND BRUTAL. MOST OF IT WAS BROUGHT TO JOE DON BY THE BAD GUYS, WHO ARE SUPPOSED TO BE THE GOOD GUYS: THE "POLICE AND PRISON GUARDS;" AND THEY WERE GREAT SCENES. I BELIEVE THE SCENES AT THE RAILROAD TRACK AND THE CAR; WHEN JOE DON PUT THE SPARK PLUG WIRE IN OUR FRIEND "FRANKS" EAR WAS WORTH THE PRICE OF THE FILM ; ALONE. THAN STUPID FRANK, INSTEAD OF GOING TO KENTUCKY, SAID HE'S COMING BACK AND KILL HIM; WHAT IS A MAN TO DO: "SHOOT HIM." WHEN I HEARD "FRANK , I BELIEVE YOU; "BANG" WENT THE GUN. I SAW ALL 3 WALKING TALL PICS WITH JOE DON AND I MUST SAY THEY WERE GREAT AND VIOLENT: BUT NOT LIKE THIS ONE. IF YOU LIKE AND WANT "R" VIOLENCE AT IT'S BEST, YOU MUST BUY THIS AT ANY COST. AS FOR ME, I'M GOING TO GIVE IT TO A FRIEND OF MINE. HE THINKS MOST ALL MY BLACK AND WHITE MOVIES; NEARLY 500 ARE "HOKIE" HE CALLS THEM. BUT I LOVE THEM. OH BY THE WAY; THE WALKING TALL MOVIE WITH THE ROCK WAS PURE "PEW WITH A GIANT "P." I'M SORRY BUT I DON'T LIKE AND KEEP "R" RATED MOVIES IN MY HOUSE. I HAVE ONE; IT'S "JOSIE WALES." ENJOY YOUR FILMS: I DO...

Movies by Joe Don Baker are always worth seeing
I'm a serious fan of Joe Don Baker because this actor takes his work seriously always. Framed (1975) was a new film for me so I wanted to see it at all cost. The trailer was very promising with a couple openly violent and sadistic scenes which showed Joe Don Baker at his best. Unfortunately, to my disappointment there isn't much more in the film it self and you start wondering was it really worth getting this DVD which costed me not less than some 50 euros. This high cost for me is explained by the fact that Framed is available only for region 1 and with mailing cost I had to pay something like 20 euros to get it. As my present DVD player shows movies for region 2 only, I bought a new player which covers all regions there are. So I paid in total something like 50 euros. Now that I'm cooled down I'm not anymore so disappointed because I was able to watch Framed and I probably watch it again one of these days. After all, there only one Joe Don Baker and in my opinion he gets much more out of even his tiniest roles than, say, Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher.

one of Baker's best
Despite having the same major players as "Walking Tall", this film is more palatable, since it's not based in reality.Baker is excellent, fans of the genre should like it. Though this critique doesn't cast aspersions on Pusser or his family.

Not quite up to "Walking Tall" standards, but enjoyable.
Joe Don Baker returns to the South to kick more small-town corruption in the ass, gets beat up a few times, breaks a few heads, shoots a few bad guys, and opts in the end to be a stand-up guy, though he requires assistance from a friendly hit man and a mob boss. Despite the efforts of director Phil Karlson, who directed Baker in "Walking Tall" (not to mention the similarly themed "The Phenix City Story" back in the 1950s), "Framed" can't live up to the novelty, moral force and forward thrust of that 1974 breakthrough film.

FRAMED from 1974 is worth a look from JOE DON BAKER.
This is another hardcore film from Director Phil Karlson. And it is from the BING CROSBY PRODUCTION unit. It is violent like, WALKING TALL and is the follow up with JOE DON BAKER and that prior film. Worth a look, but the girl that is the main babe is worthless on the acting front..AND she can't sing to boot. But if you like JOE DON BAKER and HIS STYLE OF VIOLENCE...then buy it!!

framed and the vengence that followed
i have always thought this was the one of the best of joe don baker films. it is a great action film with a story of injustice and corruption how one man fights it. it also a story of camraderie and loyalty and friendship along the way. joe don exacts his revenge against the politcians who sent him to prison.he sees they get what they deserve. the quality of the dvd is excellent in both sound and picture. i highly recommend it for who like a story of revenge for those who think they can get away with whatever they choose.

Great Genre Movie
Phil Karlson's last movie. Great revenge flick, doesn't pretend to be anything else. This is a movie that will make you think, "what would I do if I were in the same predicament?" Solid drive-in type flick.

Conny Van Dyke's first film
Conny Van Dyke was on the Merv Griffin show singing. What a voice and she could do imitations too. Although the movie was made several years ago, it still holds up today. A picture perfect transfer and an entertaining film. A lot of action and Joe Don Baker is the male lead. An action movie with a good storyline. I was surprised that it is on DVD now.

playing them at their own game
A gambler and businessman travelling home from his bar late one night, comes across two cars left in the middle of the road. Naturally he shouts his offers of help, but quickly scrambles out of there when he is fired upon by a fleeing, unseen gun~man.Later when he arrives home, he is attacked in his garage by the local sheriff, who he retaliates against and kills in self defence. Actions, which of course, land him in a world of trouble.. And after finishing a four year stretch in prison, he refuses to back down and turn away, determined to get not only to the bottom of the events that fateful night, but also to get revenge...This is a fairly obscure little title from the seventies, which is part prison drama and part revenge thriller. The story is interesting and cleverly put together, with heavy themes of political corruption and Baker doing a fine job as the often thuggish leading man, whose actions you cant always 100% side with. Reminding me a bit of a Mike Hammer novel but without Spillane's eponymous angel of vengeance, with Baker instead giving us a 'hero' who absolutely refuses to back off and behave, regardless of how many cops warn him to do so.There's plenty of good scenes and dialogue to keep it from getting dull, for me peaking at about 70 minutes in, during which there's a nasty torture scene and one of the most insanely suicidal stunts I've ever seen put to film, involving a train hitting a car, wherein it looks like the stuntman could nearly have been very badly injured, or worse! But against all odds, he just about makes it, giving the audience a truly unforgettable stunt..The dvd on review is the region 1 disc, which has no extras and isn't the greatest picture, but for the price, most certainly watchable. Recommended.4.25/5

He had one last obsession. To get even.
Gambler and nightclub owner Ron Lewis returns home to Tennessee after a trip to Texas, on the way to his house he comes across two parked cars on the road and gets out to investigate. He shouts out to see if anyone needs help, when a man opens fire on him before speeding off. Ron finally makes it home and pulls into his garage, where a deputy is waiting for him. The deputy heard the gun shot and tries to rough Ron up, but Ron overpowers the deputy and beats him, resulting in the deputy dying. Lewis is arrested and taken to the hospital, while corrupt cops and Ron's own lawyer find a huge amount of money that Ron had won from gambling out in Texas and decide to pocket the money. The cops refuse to believe that Ron killed the deputy in self-defense and instead they send two men to his home to intimidate his girlfriend and stop her from hiring private detectives. It works, and Ron ends up with a prison sentence of up to ten years. Now behind bars, Ron is befriended by mob boss Sal Viccarone and a hit man called Vince Greeson. He's eventually paroled after four years and returns home to his girlfriend, Susan. Ron hasn't been home for long when Susan breaks down and tells him about the two men that paid her a visit, he then gets treated like dirt when he goes to register as an ex con down at the police station. It becomes clear to Ron at this point that there's only one possible course of action to take, find out who framed him and get revenge. He calls on his old prison pals for help, along with an honest cop who's disgusted at the corruption in the force.Joe Don Baker is superb as Ron Lewis, he was never better than he was in these gritty thrillers in the '70s. He's gone on to have a very successful and varied film career, but Framed is still one of my favourite performances of his. He starred in three excellent films in 1973 which really cemented his reputation as an actor of real promise, he was in Walking Tall as Buford Pusser, a film based on the real life heroics of a small town sheriff who almost single-handidly beat corruption. He played the hit man determined to kill Walter Matthau in the classic crime film, Charley Varrick. He then starred in The Outfit with Robert Duvall and Karen Black. These four films shot in the space of about two years are all brilliant. Conny Van Dyke was reasonably impressive as Susan, she's believable enough and gets to show off her voice as she sings a couple of songs in the nightclub, it's a shame she did so little acting. Oscar nominee John Marley is good as the ageing mobster, Gabriel Dell is okay as the hit man, Brock Peters was very impressive as the honest cop and H.B. Haggerty is hilarious as the hulking, bald, moustachioed cop who was related to the deputy that was killed.Framed was the very last film directed by the prolific Phil Karlson, he also directed Walking Tall so this was something of a reunion for him and Baker. Of all the films Karlson made, it was these last two films that were his best in my opinion. The connection between Walking Tall and Framed is made even stronger as both films were written and produced by Mort Briskin. The music score was done by Oscar nominee Patrick Williams, Walking Tall's director of photography, Jack A. Marta was the cinematographer. Framed skips along at a great pace, and the twists that unravel as the film nears its conclusion are intelligently handled. Most of the violence is suggested rather than shown, but there is one or two nasty scenes including a memorable torture scene. The dvd from Legend Films boasts a very nice transfer, there's very little print damage and there's more detail than I expected. There's absolutely no extras on the disc, just an option to play the film and scene selection. There's no subtitles, and it's a US region 1 disc so you will need a region free player to watch it. The dvd is normally sold for very cheap, so despite the lack of any features, it's still well worth getting. It's not quite as good as Walking Tall which is an absolute classic, but it's still a great film. Fans of Walking Tall, Prime Cut, Night Moves, Charley Varrick and all the other great, gritty '70s thrillers should really enjoy this film. Highly recommended.
