Pioneer costumes are a funny thing in our community. Living in a western town, there are pioneer holidays and re-enactments, so this is just the thing for a local parade, school project, or pioneer "trek."My children are doing a pioneer trek with our local church youth group in the summer, where they will learn about our pioneer ancestors and the hardships they experienced in coming West to avoid persecution for religious freedoms. It's fun and hard and hot and everyone always has a great time. A few things we like about this basic dress for this purpose:Lightweight - has the long sleeves for sun protection and the long skirt, but is loose and light. Model is 5'8" and rather thin - elastic waist would fit larger person in this small size. Zips high up at the back.The apron ties securely and is better made than the dress, so it can account for the dress being a little more loose. The best part of the apron is the pockets - very handy if you're using to wear during a trek, rather than just as a parade or classroom costume.Includes an extra button. Stitching is extremely high quality and fabric is pretty cheap, but color is sort of nice and neutral and we are happy with it.
